My last few Bosch 1/4" bits have lasted about 4 bathooks a piece (FA's on obscure NC cliffs). Does anyone have any suggestions regarding different brands, modifications, techniques, etc. to make the bit last longer?

i have found that as my battery gets older, the bits have a shorter life. i believe this is due to the battery having less of an ability/power to hammer, therefore the bit ends up doing more spinning, which wears it down faster. S

What're you climbing? Basalt? Try sandstone, bits last forever. (YOU won't but your bits will.)

There is no way that 4 half inch bat hook holes are making your bit dull. Are you talking about breaking the carbide tip of your bits ? If so, you are pounding too hard with your hammer while simultaneously twisting. This will break your tips really fast. Try lots of "light fast taps" and lots of turning the drill. :)
