just wondering how many of you guys have taken falls long enough to activate your sceamer. i ask because i just bought one today, and was just trying to figure out how big of a whip i would have to take to activate it (not that i am looking forward to it).

I took a small fall on a screamer the other day. I had a small DMM Peanut with a screamer on it at about 3ft below my feet trying to mantle when I blew it, I totally expected the peice to fail and had visions of it ripping on the way down. to my suprise it held and only two stiches riped in the screamer. I think they activate at around 5kn. It would be hard to say how big a whipper you would need to activate the entire screamer because it all depends on fall factors and that sort of thing.

i know that the screamer activates at 2kn. i am not sure about the others.

Last winter I took using one. My screw was at my feet in manky ice. The screamer didn't blow, the screw held my fall. The first couple of stitches are a little loose. That was my first lead fall. I've lowered of them before without popping the stitches. Hope this helps.

Humor a newbie: I've heard of screamers and with rickoldskool's site I've learned more. Question: "When the Screamer activates, the action of the stitch ripping produces a loud tearing sound, indicating the system has reached the activation point of the Screamer(>2 kN). The activation point of a Screamer is consistently repeatable to +- 5% accuracy." So the thing is reusable, right? I don't see why not but "stitch ripping" sounds like the thing goes to pieces in order to obsorb the shock.

Terss, Right you are. A real big whipper can completely "rip" a screamer. It's no longer a screamer after that, just an ugly runner.
A partially activated screamer is still usable. As long as there are stitches left it still has energy absorbing ability. How much is for you to determine.
