If I use a sequence on a boulder problem that involves a foothold that would be considered off the line if it were used as a hand hold, do I get the send?

I say no, does the problem say all feet on? If not then if it's off it's off regardless of hands or feet.

A problem's line dictates what holds can/can't be used. In a more general sense, I am wondering what dictates that line - handholds or footholds or both.

Ben, when bouldering there are usually "starting holds" for a problem. The problem then follows a general line and "tops out." Anything between the "starting holds" and the "topout" is generally "on."
The FA usually follows the most obvious, or easiest, line. If you find a sequence that works better somewhere in the problem, congrats! IT'S STILL THE SAME FUCKING PROBLEM!
If the problem happens to be an "eliminate" then obvious features are probably "off". These features happen to be adjacent boulders, cracks, aretes, etc and are usually "off" because they subsequently lower the accepted grade of the problem by several numbers.

I must be extremely dense because I thought if you could reach it it was fair game. Damn!!!!! Once again I'm left out of the loop.
But seriously...well nevermind. I was going to say who cares, but obviously you do, sorry I can't offer any real help.
I don't like gyms b/c outdoors I look at a rock that looks good to climb (of course it needs to be challenging) then I climb it. Then I climb it every other way I can think of. At the gym, it's set up, put this foot here, this hand here. I am too much of a rebel for that shiznit. I'm all...I'm ten years old, and I'll do what I want. So just shut up mom and go make me some cookies or somethin'.
You know what, why don't ya'll just ignore this post. I think that will be best for all of us.

The rules on an eliminate can be as complex or stupid as people want them to be. So, the answer is: it depends. But generally I would probably assume that a hold which is eliminated should be off for feet as well.

Found out earlier that the foothold was indeed part of the line. The foothold is pretty far from the line (which goes straight up), so I figured that it was off - guess I was wrong!
