Geez .. where are the other posters to this thread??? I'm feeling lonely here.

Okay, on Lake Lawtonka, they apparently dont offer official group use areas for over night camping ... it's just first come, first serve, $5/tent/night period, end of story .. beer and such is permissible, no gates available for locking and no aquatic toys for playing. .

Thanks for the LETRA info Amber
Sorry if I left you hanging by your lonesome on this posting, but even I have to work sometimes, besides my not really having much to add
Just to muddy the LETRA situation a bit further, reserving the group sight really only guarantees us the use of the covered pavilion, not tent pitching space. However, since there are no actual tent sights (you just pitch your tent anywhere you want within the camping area) there really is no such thing as no room left unless there literally isn't enough bare ground space left to pitch a tent (that aint gonna happen, I camped there Labor Day weekend last year, it was the most people I've ever seen camping there yet it was probably 50 yards to the nearest other tent and I had my own shade tree, picknick table and grill and was within 100 yards of the bathrooms). The pavilion would be nice for eating and shade (maybe a little slack-line action) and I don't mind pitching in for it, but it isn't necessary as far as camping goes.
Anyhoo, I guess it is up to pushfurther (our fearless leader, the organizer of this rag tag parade) to decide where we will stay and to decide who will be assigned to make sure our safety is guarranteed by ensuring that no "hackys" make it to the show
Sorry, climbr_chk, some things that begin small just take on a life of their own.

Aww .. c'mon now .. I can hacky like no other ... LOL .. I'll follow up with LETRA, but they made it sound like the $20 was to reserve camp space in the primitive area, as well as privi to picnic tables and such ...

Oh oh, and we can practice driving through the refuge while playing Bop-It! yippee!! I have a 5sp if we want to throw in another level of difficulty .. .. hehee

well only two people sent me a pm saying how many people are coming with them. i made a rough estimate of 15-20 people.

as far as places to climb, i was thinking the narrows, the meadows, and upper/lower mount scott. the hikes to these areas aren't very long. if some folks wanted to hike further, elk slabs and crab eyes are good from what i hear.

there's also tons of boulders around for those who don't usually rope up. ::cough::me::cough::

i'll find my hacky sack, and i've got 54 ft of webbing for a slackline, for kicking back and relaxing.

Elk slabs is where I feel *in love* with climbing, and I've heard good things about Crab Eyes but havent made the hike yet (Think Joe Walsh, "I've never been there, they tell me it's nice .. " .. hehehe)

ANYWAYS, I've got some projects in the Narrows and I hike pretty darn slow, but any of those climbing areas sound good to me .. oh, and are there any 'early starters' in the crowd?? I hate having to wait until 10am to get a move on ..

clymber_chk,

I'll rise early, just for the joy (entertainment?) of climbing with you..

Having said that, here's what's happening:

My climbing partner's trying to get me out to Yosemite the week before Labor Day weekend - if I do go out there, I'll have to skip out on the OK/TX gathering.. If not, then I'm likely to head up to the gathering.

If I do come to the gathering, I'll be up early

D .. as much as I'd enjoy climbing with you ... if I had a choice between Yosemite and Oklahoma, I'd be searching for airfares to Cali!

No offense to the Refuge, it's where I learned to climb and is a *very* special place to me .. but YOSEMITE .. c'mon ..

OkieTerry talked me into it this weekend. Sounds like it will be fun.
By the way...someone mentioned "Half Dome" above....are you sure you didn't mean Lost Dome?

I'm sure we'll all be chasing the shade!

Sorry, last links I posted were messed up.

P.S> Maybe we should all meet at the Quarry instead? What do you think Terry...we could all move that massive boulder we were talking about.

You got to get up early if you want to climb hard in the tas in the summer. I'll be up and brewing expresso when the birds wake up (6:00 AM).

Aaron, it was fun climbing with you yesterday. You did a great job on that hand traverse. We will have to visit the Quarry during the Labor Day get together. Wouldn't it be great to get about 50 people or so swimming in the Quarry!!
See ya, Terry

Well, it seems Yosemite plans might be shelved - I can't get off the week before labor day, and stuff.

'course, I can't get off thurs+friday alone, either, so if I'd go up to the gathering, I'd be coming in late friday night, and going back monday..

That might still be an option, we'll see.

Or I might go stir crazy, and do both yosemite (week early) and the gathering..

We'll see

Sauron, I just got back from Yosemite and let me tell you, it was hot. Although you can find some shady places to climb it still kinda takes a toll on you when its 96 degrees in the shade. It was weird being the only party on the nose or the rostrum or even the cookie cliff (in the shade of the evening). Better to wait and go in late september or october. Or if you go, be able to go to Tuolumne where its perfect right now. Hope to see you at the get together,
Terry

I'm there! Just let me know the dates!
- I was there a few weeks ago and climbed RA on the east face of Crab Eyes, it tore me up! Its a 5.12a and I would like to go back and and climb some more. Treasure Cove maybe?

push, did we finally decide on LETRA, or is it still under consideration?? Also, do they require money up front?

Drew, I'm glad you liked Ra, its one of my favorites. I actually named "Ra" after the egyptian sun god (the supreme deity of the egyptians) - I got the idea from an old Todd Rundgren album that I was listening to. Lets go back there for a day during the get together. My other favorite routes in the area are "Slime of the Century", "Drop Dead" and "Steep Show".

Hey, this sounds like a blast, and I'd like to check out that LETRA place.

Not sure if I'll be able to make it, I'll be fresh back from a climbing trip the week before, but if I can I'd sure like to get up there and hang with y'all. Do you need to have confirmation of attendance by a certain date?

I think most folks rate it about 11b/c. Its a hard and sustained lead with few rests and I'm always a little spooked at the beginning and near the end. What is Z- Man rated? That thing blew my mind!!

after an hour and a half of trying to get through to LETRA, they informed me the only group spot they have is no good for tents, so it's either the first come first serve tent pitching at LETRA or lake lawtonka.
