A few months ago I ran across a web-site that advertized some really huge holds... actually more than holds, more like a big feature you could attach to the wall. These were about 4 feet tall and stood out from the wall by a good 1-2 feet. I guess I didn't write down the name of the vendor or a link and now I can't find them with a search either. Has anyone run across this? Has anyone used these features? Are they of good quality? Do gym climbers like them?

I'm a routesetter at a pretty good sized gym (10,000+ sq feet), and we've been getting some of these monster holds in - and I'm suprised at how fun they are to use - the thing to look for (and this may be a critique for hold manufacturers) If there is one significanly good spot to grab on a huge hold, people generally ignore teh rest of it, and it seems like a lot of space and material is wasted. If the hold/feature is equally good/bad all over it? People (including me) can wrestle with it all day. The Pusher "Jabba" and another I'm nto sure the name of the company, but it's the "aomeba" I think are great. Also, I have a home wall of about 250 square feet, and don't think I would like to have anything this big hogging my space...know what I'm sayin? Entreprise, Nicros, Egrips, (Pusher has a new name now that I can't remember) there are others and most have good on-line catalogs - and I'm sure your gym has some "paper" catalogs they can share with you - Have fun!

i have seen some huge, 3 footish, holds by Entre Prises but i couldnt find them on their site. They had things that screwed into a corner and made a big roof bulge out of it. And big stalactites https://ss57.shared.server-system.net/~epusa.com/handholds/ One way we used to set with the big holds was to put a huge sloper on an overhang and then screw some jibs onto it. Making the otherwise useless hold into something you had to maneuver around to get to the jibs. Etch holds from maryland has a few fun big holds. Their grapes of wrath has limitless sloper problems but its not off the wall feature. http://www.etchholds.com/megafeatures.html Enjoy

Megahold is another company out there. They have two types: The Tufa can be mounted with 2 end-caps to allow it to be used individually with no loss of aesthetics. Each section is 4ft in length and 36inches in width and ranges between 9 and 20 inches in depth. With end-caps attached each section is 5’4” long. The Mni-Megas attach to any wall simply using 2 existing t-nuts and wok well at any angle from slabs to radically overhanging walls. The above information was taken from the web site below. http://www.megahold.com/formations.html I have seen these hold and got to touch them, but have not had the chance to climb on them. Bill

Most of my favorites are at http://www.voodooholds.com. Or at least, my favorites from the gym I frequent all seem to be VooDoo.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I don't know why I couldn't remember "mega". Has anyone set routes with these mega holds? Are they of good quality? Has anyone climbed on them, are they fun and challenging? Do they have a good feel?

I have been looking for a manufacturer of tufas and came across the company Bendcrete. Check out their mega holds at: http://www.bendcrete.com/climbingholds.htm Their tufa system looks excellent so I am thinking of ordering all ten pieces. Has anybody seen or better yet climbed on them? Joe
