I was wondering how to attach myself to the anchor after I build it. This is assuming the anchor is bomber. What do I use to tie myself in?

when you begin an anchor, your first piece should be pretty bomber or at least the most secure piece in the whole system (my opinion). clove hitch yourself to that piece (i like a locker) and continue to build your anchor. once anchor is built, connect the dots with a cordellette (or use the rope or slings or whatever...), adjust your clove hitch to a comfortable lenght to belay, back yourself up at the power point (can i get another locker please) with a figure eight and put your second on belay. many variations, but this is "my" norm.

First off: It depends (TM). I like tradalltheway's approach. Sometimes I use the rope - usually that would be figure-eighted to the power point of whatever anchor I've built. Sometimes I'll use a pair (for redundancy) of slings that I've clove-hitched to my harness. I'll try and always think about how my second is going to anchor & try and make that as easy & accessable for them, possibly pre-rigging a sling for them to clip.

So, Dan, Boulderer 16 posts added since 31 Aug 2001 Offline Posted: Wed Nov 09, 2005 3:15 pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was wondering how to attach myself to the anchor after I build it on a multipitch climb. This is assuming the anchor is bomber. What do I use to tie myself in? Im only talking about anchors on multipitch routes. Basically, I have the central point biner in my hand, now what do I do? http://www.rockclimbing.com/topic/100920 he asked the same question a minute before and had 22 responses. This thread is answered.
