Taking my little brother climbing for the first time to Coopers Rock in WV Saturday following Thanksgiving... anyone got beta on some good first timer routes. I will probably set a toprope for him as he has never really climbed before. Thanks

If you are familiar with the area go to the big block across from sunshine wall. You must solo a 5.2 to get up on the top. The 5.2 is a little difficult to set up a tr but doable. On the side facing the road there is a 5.3 crack that can be led trad and set up tr or just scramble up and set tr. If you still have questions or are not familiar with the place let me know and I can give you links for topos and more info.

I checked and it's closed and without power. That doesn't mean you can't walk in.

That's a heck of a hike for a couple of TR's . . . in the time it would take you to hike in you could probably drive to Summersville or elsewhere and have better tr routes.

I just talked to a guy today who was there last week or just before and he said it's open. They uaually close the gate after the first good snow.
