Gonna be in SLC this week and the second week of Dec. Just wondering if any ice has started forming in the canyon and whether i should bring my tools. Also looking for some partners if there is something there. I have a couple of people to rock climb with, but not ice. Also, is there enough snow in the backcountry to ski? thanks.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think Provo Canyon is in yet. As of about 5 days ago the stuff in LCC wasn't from what I gather. It hasn't been consistently cold here. Someone else might know firsthand though.

I know there are people out backcountry skiing and that Brighton is open now (just found out, I don't go there much). I thought I heard talk about some snowstorms this week, but the National Weather Service site doesn't say anything about that. There's 28 inches midmountain at Snowbird, so there's enough to get into the backcountry. Whether it's worth doing is up to you really. I'm not yet, but I'm also trying to make it through the semester still.

Things should be significantly better when you come in mid december.....by then ski season will be into full swing.

Any word on whether the recent cold weather and snow have made Bridal Veil or Stairway or anything in Provo Canyon form up yet? Anything climbable at all....maybe ice bouldering?

yeah, you should be golden for snow now. Especially in the cottonwood canyons. NOt sure how much park city got.

I'll let you know IF I go up Provo Canyon in the next few days. No guarantees though....finals are about to start kicking my ass officially.

I'll get up there before the 7th though sometime, so I can let you know. IF anyone else goes up prior to that, I'd be interested in hearing about conditions. That way I don't have to waste the gas money.

I drove up prove canyon the other day and watched someone climbing the second pitch of stairway, looks good but thin up to and including the forth pitch.

White nightmare also looked in.
