Ken Nichols was spotted at Chatfield hollow in Connecticut on Saturday Nov. 19, 2005. He was seen free soloing and belaying his wife up some of the easier climbs. His car was seen in the parking lot- An older black pickup with a hard cover over the bed and a combination license plate. The Easton Garage sticker is gone but the adhesive marking is still on the front bumper. there is now a rumor that he is going to cut down some of the anchor trees at Chatfield Hollow. any info about this would be much appreciated. thanks

Why would Ken cut down anchor trees? He wouldn't. He encourages top roping. He's only psychotic when it comes to bolts... -Fear

In reply to: there is now a rumor that he is going to cut down some of the anchor trees at Chatfield Hollow. any info about this would be much appreciated. thanks There is a rumor that ethicsmann derived his name from the high ethics of the bush cronies in the whitehouse. Any truth to that? Really, is everyone so concerned that if KN goes climbing that he is gonna chop something?

Maybe... But you gotta ask yourself why I like oranges and pears but NEVER apples. At least not for clipping bolts. -Fear

This is a confirmed threat he talked of cutting the trees above trad crack, clark bar and trickery. The state has been thinking about putting in TR bolts since the tree fell above z crack to limit tree abuse. Ken has a history of cutting trees up in NH too and I dont think we should take this lightly

I was watching the film of the Kennedy assasination and I saw Ken Nichol's truck in the background. Are Ken Nichols and BURT BRONSON brothers?

i have only been climbing on the east coast since this spring and this dude blows my mind...every time i hear a story about this retard it leaves me speechless. I wonder if we just ignore him, will he go away? has anybody ever tried to mediate and maybe develop local rules for bolting (or not bolting)to try and meet this guy half way...I'm sure there is a post about it somewhere but i feel he wins every time i give him my attention.. I'm pretty tired of this guy disturbing my climbing experience and i have only lived here for 6 months. there has to be a way to fix this without more destruction of property either to the bolts or this guy's car...

The "State of Connecticut" is never going to put in bolts so your whole "confirmed" threat is hogwash. There are no "state" placed bolts anywhere in CT. If the DEP thought climbers were a problem on state land somewhere they'd just close it to climbing as they've done 100x before. Ken is not a Yeti........ He will chop your bolts since he's a bit nuts but that is about it. -Fear

Actually I was there Nov 19 around 3:30 at Chatfield when he B****ed at us because he thought we were rapping off a tree when there were slings and a biner up there. He talked about how it does damage to the tree and said that if he see's people continue to do this he will cut them; of course I gave captain planet the universal sign and he just walked off. And yea sure the DEP may close it but check your history on Sleeping Giants staples although theyre not intended for climbing use surely the state would have another reason for putting them in the rock? If you catch Ken around so much F'in ask him yourself, this is just to shed a little light when you head out to the crag and find that some key anchor trees are gone but if all you have to say is bs about it then your just ignorant
