Where to climb near Phoenix?

A friend and I will be in the Phoenix area to cheer my sister and my roommate on in the Phoenix marathon in mid-January. I've been toying with the idea of trying to get some climbing in on this trip and would like to know some good climbing spots in the Phoenix area (suitable for a day trip, 1-2 hrs from Phoenix). We're looking for sport and TR climbs in the 5.10 range.

I'm pushing to extend our trip by a couple days so tips on places a little further outside of Phoenix (suitable for 2-3 day camping trip) would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Close to Phoenix -
Queen Creek - so much good stuff - climbing and bouldering

A little farther -
Jacks Canyon - lots of well protected climbs, but please rap off the anchors instead of lowering.

Queen Creek / Oak Flat is what you're probably looking for. It's about one hour east of Phoenix. For a 2 - 3 day trip, you could head to Mt. Lemmon near Tucson too.

hey sapphire! Queens Creek is pretty easy to get to and there is a lot to do there.

this trip I visited the Pond Area, right off 60 with a short (yet steep) approach. You can get route info and topos on drtopo too.

sweet! Thanks! sounds like Queen's Creek is the place to be! I'll check it out.

mdacar - you're welcome to join us. We're still defining our plans at the moment, but i'll send you a PM.

core - I briefly saw your pic in the MASS Climber's Thread. Didn't realize that was out in AZ.

I am quite excited for my trip now! :D
