So Emilie and I just started playing board games and our collection is pretty weak right now. We have Settlers of Catan which is an awesome game for 3-4 players however, Emilie and I would like to play together sometimes for short games. Does anybody have any recomendations for some really good two player board games?

LOL I play Candyland w/ my two daughters just about every day. I'm always the dealer and yet... I never win. :( Mankala is a good one. You could just buy a deck of cards and a book of card games. Gin Rummy is a good one.

Not board games, but good for two players--Uno and Skip Bo. The new version of Life isn't all that fun for two...

In reply to: Not board games, but good for two players--Uno and Skip Bo. I was thinking Uno too. Got a brand new Skip Bo deck waiting in the box for a rainy day.

Phase 10 is another fun card game. There's a new handy portable computerized game called 'catch phrase' that's just awesome for 2 or for a whole group. It's smaller than a frisbee and is similar to charades - my roomie got one for xmas and we were up until 1am playing it the night they got back! Tons of fun.

I occasionally play a variant of poker with my friends while drunk. It's very like texas hold 'em with the exception that none of the players really know the rules and make large, stupid bets without any regard to their actual chances of winning. In most cases this leads to unexpected dramatic losses which in turn lead to petty recriminations, accusations of cheating and eventually a fight. It's an ideal family game especially for those with younger children and I heartily recommend it.

No no, football hooliganism is a completely different game. It's mainly played by the english - in fact they're world champions - but is still enjoyed the world over. As with most british sports, you can get a version in america, it's a little like what we play here except everyone wears big pads so they don't chip their nail polish, and play is divided in three thousand segments divided by commercials reminding you to drink beer and stay stupid.

Gin Rummy is a good one. i think candyland is fixed against adults. i never won against my kids either. my favorite 2 player game is cathedral. It's a plastic walled playing board. The playing pieces are 3-d plastic models of buildings that would be in a medieval village. You then have to fit your pieces in to the board before your opponent. Cool game of strategy. crib is my other favorite.
