ANY MONEY IS MONEY IN THIS! 1200 feet of pristine granite. Up to 17 pitches of sheer beauty. It doesnt matter if you will or will not climb this in the near future, just to know that you CAN anytime you want is what to think about. We will finally have BIG wall on the east coast.
I don't want to compare this to any big walls out west, but imagine that a world-class climbing area that we all love to road-trip to required that you pay $5 for every day a person climbs (to pay to keep it from closing). People would pay with out even thinking about it. The money would be raised in no time! Help turn this place into the East Coast's own awesome climbing area that is taller and (perhaps) better than anything else east of the Rockies. $25 donated by a poor college bum.

I heard that neighboring Cow Rock may be included in this purchase or that access to it will be granted. Is this true? If so, all the more reason to pony up to this great cause. Cow Rock has some amazing climbing and would be a super bonus.

OK, I just donated $250 for the cause. I hope I can contribute more, but I've got to look at the books.

What happens to the money if the purchase doesn't go thru?

There's a route at Cow Rock called "Skyhedral" that's supposed to be one of the best routes in N.C. One of the FAists has been promising me for years he'd take me there to do that route someday. So, yes, this would be double-plus good.

why doesnt someone get companies to corporately sponsor this place. Hell re-name the thing Cingular Knob, or Petzl Knob, or whatever.... we need to give companies a reason to give and mabey agreeing that at the very least climbers will call it a by a certain corporate name (guide books and so on..) this could assure life long access to troubled areas.

Great Stuff on here! Cool thought to throw out to the CCC. I know I read somewhere that there were plans for a visitors Kiosk. Any chance you can incorporate a "thanks to the following" list on that kiosk?

Great idea! A similar idea has been discussed in the past, but I'll rattle some cages and see if we can get this done.

:D Thanks everyone for your support. To answer some questions:
Cow Rock is owned by the developers of the valley below Laurel. We have met with them and there is a possibility of them opening parts of it to us. We need to show post-closing that we are good stewards and not the troublesome neighbors they fear. Be cool, keep the place clean, no camping, partying, trespassing in the development, gunplay, fires etc and maybe someday Skyhedral will be available.
If for some bizarre reason the deal does fall apart, of course we would refund the money if asked to. We could also put it towards the next purchase at Rumbling Bald or elsewhere if the donor so desired.
We are seeking corporate sponsorship, it is just a long slow process. Some companies have already stepped up, for example Misty Mountain and Chaco. Others will surely follow.

Thank you, Sean. Speaking only for myself, I don't want that money back. If not LK, please use it for Rumbling Bald or whatever you guys think is hottest.

Thanks kovacs, but no need. Currently, it's the big red front page feature two slots above the recent posts. It'll stay that way until closing day.

Thanks for the replay. That's all I needed to know. Money is on the way.

I'm just a lil busy babysitting two rugrats under 5 this morning and have to keep an eye on the climbing wall they are enjoying while trying to keep up on what is going on here. (For those who are courioous, my computer is less then 10 feet from my wall.) That's why shit like this gets old ...
