I recently acquired a Size 2 Petzl Corax. My friend has a Size 1 Corax, and his has two black elastic straps, along the waist belt, one on each side of the belay loop. But mine lacks these elastic straps. Should I be concerned? Or are they purely cosmetic?

I don't think there is any cause for concern. I think these things are just to keep your waist belt from moving around too much. I too have a Corax and it also lacks the straps. M@

Yeah, mine is a size 2, as well, and doesn't have those straps. *shrug* On a different note, is anyone worried about the buckles catching on a rock and coming undone? I'm not, but my girlfriend insists that i'm going to die Any help here?

Mine does have the straps, but I will say I don't like the buckles that much. I am looking for a new harness at this time. CLIMB ON!

Wiegs, I wouldn't be all that concerned, after all, you know what a pain it can be trying to get the straps loose. As far as getting them caught, if that's an issue then the harness may be to large, mine latches hug my harness closely and I tend to be more conserned with a draw getting caught up on rock then the latches. You got a top rated harness. Petzl as doesn't put out crappy gear, expensive, but always safe and always well worth the cash. James

very true. petzl harnesses are top notch, and their harwear is always above par. my corax is sans straps too...which confirms my theory tha the olny difference between the corax and the calidris is the twin air waist belt...right? never had my buckles catch, but i've got a little belly, too

The Twin-Air Waist Belt does look like the only difference, besides the beautiful purple color. Does anyone know why some come with the black straps, and some don't?

I have the calidris and the only diffrence between it and the corax is the waist belt. Mine is a size 2 and it has the black straps. I want to know what the hell they are for. It seems that the adjustment straps should run through them beacuse I have a problem with the ends of the waist belt riding up and it bugs. Does anyone eles have this problem? You know what, I think I'm gonna call Petzl and find out about The mystery of the Little Black Strap Climb safe and don't drive angry -Zac [ This Message was edited by: pbcowboy77 on 2002-07-22 23:42 ] [ This Message was edited by: pbcowboy77 on 2002-07-22 23:44 ]

from what i know..the corax does not have the elastic straps while the calidris (maroon coloured harness) has those elastics.. actually u guys are wrong that the only difference between corax and the calidris is only the air vents behind..another difference is that the calidris has a longer waist line compared to the corax..therefore the buckles of the corax are touching against your skin if u are climbing shirtless..only realised this after the corax..

My friend and I ordered our Corax's together from sportextreme.com, his being a Size 1, my being a Size 2. But his has the elastic straps. I've also seen the elastic straps on Size 2 Corax's at REI. [ This Message was edited by: alvchen on 2002-07-23 15:17 ]

I found out after asking many of sales people that don't climb and getting stupid replys, but I did find out what the hell the "little black straps are for." The buckle comes apart and if you have a problem of the waist belt ridding up you run the strap through it. As far as the question of why some have them and some don't...that mystery still stands. Oh well I have them. -Zac

the "twin air" waste belt design is overall wider, and longer, and has a vented design in the back. the length and width are also part of the new "twin air" design.

Also have a Corax and love it. I think mine's a size 1 and I don't have the straps either. I've had it for almost a year now. Petzl gear's much cheaper here in South Africa than other American brands. Quality wise it's top notch.

I love my corax. My friends all spend time double backing all of their straps as I just give four quick tugs and away I go. I think their jealous!

I'm also a corax owner and love it. It's a great all around climbing harness, as I plan on getting into mountaineering.

First off, i love my corax . . . secondly i wear a size one, and i know what your talking about, but i dotn see why you should have a problem . . . and about the buckles coming undone . . . not likley as long as you keep the straps clipped into the things above the util loops [ This Message was edited by: drumbum on 2002-08-17 14:43 ]

those clips above the gear loops are just to keep the webbinb out of the way. anything would work there, like a rubber band or something. i've seen a band used where this guy was really thin, and the straps went way psat the second clip.
