I will be visiting Tucson, Arizona in April and was wondering if anyone here has experience with any of the local guides? Any info, whether it is positive/negative will be much appreciated! I am a beginner with very little outdoor experience. Thanks.

There is another guide here that you do NOT want to use, but jeff is a great guy, and you can't go wrong.

Jeff Fasset is a great guide, but who is this other guy you say we should NOT want to use? (Is he dangerous or something?)
In fact, what are the choices? It seems Tucson should have more options then just Aspen Expeditions... Not that they aren't cool, but Tucson has so much climbing close to town, I'm surprized there aren't half-a-dozen already.
I've climbed with a lot of climbers that I would trust with my life before a commercial guide, and I've learned more from them then I could ever hope to achieve in a single guided trip...
Plus guides are usually fairly expensive, so finding an experienced climber is potentially just as rewarding, especially if they know the area... and they're much cheaper! I say check with the locals first... You'll probably find some pretty cool climbers.
Just my $.02.

I don't want to start any wars here, so I'm not naming any names. But, if you've spent more than a year or two in this community there will be plenty of things that you would know.
FWIW, I believe all the guides in Tucson are safe. That is not my issue. My issue is ethics based.
Whichever guide you choose, ask about what certs they hold, and what they are allowed to teach. This should be the first thing you ask about.

I was just re-reading my first post, and I realized it may have come across far to harsh. I apologize for that.
It's just that for the money (I believe) you would have a much better experience with a good guide. This is JUST my opinion.
I'm very much in agreement with bighigaz. If you can find some cool locals, you will save a bunch of cash.
I personally wouldn't use a guide. But I may have learned the hard way. hehe
Sorry if I offended anyone.
BTW, James are you guys still working on getting your guide permits?

Scott, thanks for asking. Yes we are! It's just an issue of enough time... AAAHHH!!! We're opening the gym hopefully in May/June, and we're also organizing another company that has nothing to do with climbing... (independent window contractor)... with all this, AND running the mobile wall, we hardly get to climb as much as we'd like... (Unless you count the mobile wall :lol: )
Amga is coming to town next week for the TRSM course, 5 people are enrolled but we would like one more... interested? Here's the forum:

Now that this class has come together for Tucson, we are going to start pushing for other AMGA courses to be held here in the future, and we're also working on bring NOLS/WMI out for Wilderness First Aid/Responder, Etc.
It's time Tucson got some good programs going in our OWN backyard!
