I've never heard of any outdoor, or even indoor for that matter, climbing area that has an age specification, most on them are public parks and open to everyone at your own risk. This isn't necessarily a dumb question though, because on some privately-owned land the owners will make you sign waivers your first time out, and typically waivers can't be signed if your under 18. So it is a technicality that would be worth looking in to. Edit: on another note, once you get out, stay out  hope you have local spots, if your stuck with nothing but gyms surrounding you this statement is sorta nullified.

In reply to: climbing, recomended ages, 2yrs - death Be careful when climbing or you could find yourself at the top of the age range faster than you would like.

Not as silly of a question as you hecklers might think. The Mohonk Preserve, whose land the Gunks resides, requires that you purchase a day pass (a honking $15 dollars a day!!!) in order to climb. I am am pretty sure that you need one even to boulder. I don't know whether or not they there is a minimum age requirement to purchase one. I think it is likely, as the day pass also serves as a liability waiver. For more accurate info than I can give, give the preserve a call. I'm too lazy to do it. http://www.mohonkpreserve.org/index.php?climb Plus, if you think you are going to get away without buying a pass, think again. The rangers regularly patrol the Carriage Road, and will harrass you about your pass.
