I missed the Cody Ice Fest last weekend, on account of too much ice. On the roads that is. And my truck wouldn't start. And Greyhound's system is ridiculous. Anyway, what's the worst/craziest reason you've ever had to bail on a trip?

In early May last year, I was supposed to land my helo on Everest, but the gas prices seemed a bit pricey. Anyways, I rolled my summit date back a bit. Who knew that Delsalle guy was considering the FHA* of Everest, too. Moral of the story: Don't let a little gas get in your way of an Everest summit. *FHA: First Helo Ascent

I missed a trip once because the night before I left, my friends dared me to ride a big wheels down a huge flight of stairs. I did it and ate it so hard, my wrist was broken. I felt like the biggest jackass explaining why I could not longer go. priceless.

I got caught at the elevator by the boss on a Friday evening one time. He told me I had to work for the weekend even though I told him I had reservations for a trip that weekend (ok so it was just a reservation for a camp ground, but still). There was no real work to do either, he just wanted me to bill more hours to the client. I snuck out of the office when the boss wasn't looking for the rest of the time I worked for that guy. Totally Office Space.

Here's one for y'all: The day before a Wind River trip, with many big objectives lined up, my partner crashes his bike into an oblivious party. He's generally fit as a fiddle, except for the deep, 6" long laceration running up the palm of his left hand! Food was bought, packs were packed, etc... The worst of it: He was on his way to pick up a sack of greens!

Took a 10 day trip to Joe's with 3 other friends last year. Well on the very first day there did some exploring, it snowed some then later we were maxin at camp had a couple, then yeah we got on the bikes. Anyway it seemed like a great idea to catch some air off this ridge behind us. First attempt was weak. I needed more speed so I went higher up & got everyone's attention before launching. Had great momentum and hit the lip which was pretty soft dirt and my front got no lift. Had some nice air but no way out of landing nose first. With good reaction timing I would have bailed. With slight buzz I held on for the ride, upon hitting straight down I then proceeded to catapult over my bike onto neck shoulder area thereby breaking my collar bone. The next day with little pain meds, no thanks to Price hospital, my friends decided to make the 13 hour drive home.

Missed a trip to Colorado when my girlfriend (at the time) decided that we really needed to be together that weekend. I stayed, we argued a bit, the next day we broke up and my friends had a blast.... I was so upset that I missed the trip, that I went to the local boulder to take it out. Ended up breaking a finger due to my lack of concentration. Yeah, that was the worst in my past.

Four hour drive up to Squish. At the Smoke Bluffs parking lot my friend makes the discovery, "Um, I forgot the rope." But I had the lamest last year, "I'm too f*#$ing tired from work."

Years back at a bar after a long hot Saturday working, 3 of us got lined out on doing the tower the following day. We left the bar and one got popped for DWI. He called and I went down with my brother, and bailed him out. When we got outside to the parking lot at the jail, he spotted the cop car that belonged to the cop that busted him. He was furious, and ran over to the car, jumped up on the hood and started pissing all over the cop car. When he was done, the same cop inside the car (couldn't see in the dark) opened the door and proceeded to arrest him again. The cop told us to not bother to stick around to bail him out again. He missed that trip the next day.

I almost missed a trip to squish when I lost my car. That's right lost it. It wasn't stolen it just turned out i forgot where I forgot where I parked it. Unfortunately I had already called the cops and ICBC before I found it  ____________________________________________________ Gary www.squamishclimbing.com

What about the cop who locked up moose's friend? Maybe he had plans to go climbing too. I think his story would've been the best.

In reply to: Four hour drive up to Squish. At the Smoke Bluffs parking lot my friend makes the discovery, "Um, I forgot the rope." 20 hour drive to Las Vegas. Halfway there I realized I'd left my entire climbing pack hanging from a tree in my front yard in Arkansas. I got a friend to FedEx it, so it wasn't a total loss.
