Alright. Since I'll be loaded off your tax dollars when I finish up this deployment, I'm looking to buy a whole buttload worth of new gear. I'm thinking between 1-2k in one sitting. So far, my rack consists of: http://img.photobucket.com/...r_feelgood/Rack4.jpg I'm thinking C4 Cams #4-6, a full set of TCUs and the 2 OP link cams. That takes care of about 500 or so... What to spend the rest on? Hmmm... Please. Enlighten me.

You might consider where you're climbing and maybe double up on some more common sizes before you get anything huge. I've got a number 4 BD that's seen maybe three placements, and I've never placed anything bigger. In general, I feel better about the Metolius Fat Cams than anything else. They just feel solid.

Looks like ya need the smaller tricams, set of hexes, more lockers, acenders, backup rope, another set of nuts, aiders, daisy, pitons, hooks, peckers, screamers, etc......and a 64 ounce ice cold beer when ya get home. Cheers

If you like the Camlots, double up from #.5 so #.75 - #3, or get a set of Metolius powercams instead of doubles in camlots. Also, you could supplement your nuts with doubles of the most commonly used sizes (say, 6 - 11), or maybe some HB offsets.

-another cordellete -pink, red, brown tricams -more smaller-med cams (I like aliens but with the current drama, you may go in a different direction) -a few more slings -maybe another set of nuts -prussik (although those dyneema slings will serve that purpose) -lots of biners both reg and locking -another rope (possibly lighter for a trail line) -Do you like hexes, if so maybe some of the bigger ones. little ones are useless -small knife The rack you have, you could climb a lot of places, but if you have the money...Go big! JOsh

Oh in the not pictured catagory. #3-9 Rockcentrics. Pink, brown and Blue tri-cams. another harness, and a daisy chain another set of shoes. a Right handed ascender(it was a gift from someone who didn't know you needed 2) On my secondary list is a full set of metolius curve nuts, a set of powercams, a left handed ascender, and a set of aiders. Oh, and i've got enough knives to outfit a small guerrila force.

In reply to: screw buying more gear, man. save your money run it out! ...maybe buy a little more gear... Brent But that would be denying my true nature as a gear whore... The object is not to use, but to own, display and contemplate. And then use. I want the necessity of hiring porters to get all my stuff to the base of my local crag for a day of rigorous top-roping with the few interspersed leads requiring at least a half hour of racking up. That is a gear whore.

I want the necessity of hiring porters to get all my stuff to the base of my local crag for a day of rigorous top-roping with the few interspersed leads requiring at least a half hour of racking up. That is a gear whore. ahhh, Dr. Feelgood, I know your plight. I feel your pain/pleasure as I too am a gear whore. Although, i've been reasonable for a while...only spending about 300 on soft goods (a couple coats i didn't need, softshell pants i didn't really need but bought to stay warm, gloves that actually saved my digits...does anyone need a softshell or windstopper coat???). I guess to asnwer your quesiton honestly, what do you find yourself needing? It's a weird question, perhaps. Maybe you should ask yourself what do you want? I find that when I have something on my rack I look for placements for said piece. For example, a couple leads had me searching for ballnut placements. So, what do you want to place? small tricams? TCU's? ballnuts? Mid sized cams? There seems to be an alure and coolness to small/large cams. The midsized stuff seems to, well, just be boring. how often will you rave about the "wicked #2 camalot placement"?? The "I shot in 5 black aliens in a row" seems to wow a little more. If you truly are a gear whore, or a showoff, maybe you should be looking for gear to fill that niche. What would I do to beef up my rack? probably either zeros in the small stuff or TCU's then a set of powercams to complement your BD's. Why not? Powercams are indestructible. zeros are small and bendy...and cool! (*caution..i've never placed a zero*). I've ranted, now. look at what i've made myself do! Good luck finding stuff. If you are what you say you are, it doesn't matter what you buy. You'll have the stuff you passed on in a couple years anyway. Brent PS ever thought of ice climbing?!?!?!?

Seeing as no one has mentioned them yet........Lowe Balls! aka Ballnuts/z. Shouldn't set you back more than $150, so well worth it. Edit, actually, just realised brent_e did mention them while I was writing this post.

C3's!!!!! I don't have any yet, and haven't played with them either, but they look cool, and since Alien's are out of the question... for me at least... I need to find something to replace them.

1. A rock hammer and 10-15 pitons of different sizes 2. A Bosch or Hilti drill, two extra batteries and 50-100 bolts+hangers. Now watch your topic go off:
Using pitons vs. clean protection. To Bolt or Not to Bolt. Cheers, H.

you don't "need" a left hand ascender --- use a prussik with the gear that you have! i know you are a gear whore, but you really want the term to be "technically competent gear whore." if you are really a gear whore, you'll buy a petzl shunt, then you can back up your rappells and use it for a lefty ascender!

Gear Whores Unite! Alright this is the low down on what I'd buy if I had money to spare like you do. camalot #4 and extra camalots # .75, 1, 2, 3 Aliens blue, green, yellow, grey and red (or maybe wait to check out those new zeros, longer and bigger triggers and TCU's are of course always bomber.) Extra nut set gear sling Few more QD's for your spotclimbin pleasure. A sh!t load of trango classic wiregate biners for rackin those new cams. And last, but most importantly, One plane ticket straight to the Valley! If your gonna have the gear go use it in the best place on the this d@mn planet!
