Okay guys, looking for some music for a comp. Natually the choice is techno, but need some suggestions on songs/artists/albums. Not a big enough comp to hire someone to come in, but the radio won't cut it for tunes.

Anyways, any suggestions are appreciated.

Jazz. Nothing gets you pumped to send that problem like the relaxing sounds of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

If you really want techno, Paul Van Dyk and Paul Oakenfeld are good artists.

Please, no techno. Can't even be described as music. I would suggest some smooth reggae and fast stuff to get people going. Punk rock?

"techno" is too vague a term anymore. about like saying "rock and roll".

get yourself some drum and bass.

try squarepusher, dj shadow, dj spooky, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. ecjohnson, check your pm's if you read this topic again.

One thing i'm looking at is an internet radio station, that's what one of the other local gyms uses for their music.

Sound Tribe Sector Nine - really good jam-band, somewhat techno (they are a mix of live instruments and computer-generation), great climbing music
Gorillaz - Demon Days
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Nujabes, Fat Jon, and FORCE OF NATURE - Samurai Champloo Soundtrack
Matisyahu - Shake off the Dust. . .Arise
RJD2 - Deadringer
RJD2 - Since We Last Spoke
LTJ Bokum and MC Conrad - Progression Sessions Vol. 5
Quantic - Mishaps Happening

The majority of these CDs are instrumental and non-explicit (I work at a climbing gym and keep two playlists - a non-explicit one and the music that I use when setting or when people request it). They are all pretty good at getting people amped for climbing, though.

Hope this helps,
Paz

gogo you are the man, champloo soundtrack rocks the house! It's awesome beats, seriously I listen to that all the time when I'm working/climbing at the gym. It's really good for getting pumped up or just chilling out playing around. Also a good song is "Freestyler" by Bomfunk MC, it's epic and cheesy all at the same time.

Oh, and if you want to do this internet radio thing, check www.live365.com,
specifically the channels (ADRENALINE::), which is all underground hip/hop and turntablism, and ARABIX which is all arabian dub (it works out surprisingly well for climbing). The only issues with live365.com are that unless you are a subscriber, you have to deal w/ occasional commercials (only really common on the really popular stations) and occasionally a station will have its capacity of "free users" and signing on becomes difficult.

There are thousands of stations on that site though, so its cool to sift through and find something you really like or that would work really well.

Hope it helps,
PaZ.

i'm not gonna lie, i like a comp with fast paced music as much as the next guy, but i have heard way to much techno, it just gets old. however, bluegrass myfreind, real twangy appalachian mountain music, nothiing gets a heart racing and feeling amped up for climbing like some old timey bluegrass.

PS IM SERIOUS

Techno sucks.... why pick the same music for comps that every Red Bull swilling, Von Dutch wearing, ecstasy popping, lost generation, TV addicted, non-outdoors going clubhopper in the world loves? You may as well play polka....

Try http://www.pandora.com

You plug in one band name and it creates a station of similar bands, with a mix of songs that is ussually different. And it's free.

Only problem is that it doesn't filter profanity, so you need to be carefull which bands you plug in (especially hip hop), and be ready to change the music if something offensive comes on.
