Two back packs full of camming devices and other rock climbing equipment were stolen this weekend at the Hamburger Rock campground at Indian Creek in Utah. The total replacement value of the stolen gear is almost $10,000. The backpacks were left leaning against a vehicle as one occupant slept in the vehicle and six others slept at the campsite. The approximate time of the theft was 3 a.m. on Monday morning, April 10th. Below is a summary of the stolen gear: - about 65 Black Diamond camalots and 20 CCH Aliens, some with the initials GGS or SP on the slings. - large green MEI backpack. - large green Gregory backpack. - various slings, biners, ropes, helmets, harnesses, climbing shoes, headlamps, etc. If you know the whereabouts of any of this gear, please email indiancreektheft@yahoo.com. Reward for information leading to the recovery of the gear and/or the prosecution of those involved. Please spread the word. Lock up your gear at night . . .

wow man - sorry to hear of the loss! Some fucker is going to pay dearly - be it the karma gods or a severe beating - or both... I hope the guy decks and breaks both legs and arms and can never climb again - would serve em right.

In reply to: whoa. this should be made sticky, top of page, issue of note in big letters, etc... yeah, cuz gear gets stolen when it is left out! who'd a thunk it? When are people going to wake up? Sucks to hear about your loss but I am not one bit shocked. I'm more comforotable leaving my car unlocked at the grocery store than at the crag.

bump. sounds like Indian creek is becoming just another crag, with the same pay-to-play rules, concerns about theft, and dumbasses as every other crag. I blame Return 2 Sender for too much publicity.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. Funny, i was driving through that area on Saturday afternoon around 7:00 pm looking for some friends. I commented to my friend who was w/ me in my van that that whole area (lockhart basin) is a totally different user group than most other campgrounds in the area. I have never seen so many atv'ers, older couples w/ fifth wheels and pop up campers, people just out there to have fires and drink themselves silly, etc... It wouldn't surprise me if it were not climbers. Sounds like if it happened at 3 am, they probably weren't getting up any time early to beat the heat on Sunday, it was hot! Again, sorry about the loss. THat is a tragedy, will insurance cover any of that?

a theft of more then $500 is a felony. Sadly gear thief's rarely are caught.

We're having a discussion about this over in Trad. You should check your homeowners or renters insurance (if you have it)... there might be some partial coverage. Might want to monitor E-bay, and for the next 6 months to see if anything familiar pops up. That really sucks- sorry man.

they must have been stealthy little bastards. when I sleep in the desert it seems like any noise, especially feet on the gravely ground around my tent wakes me up (makes it easy to get the early temps in Bishop). at any rate, I agree that your gear should have been locked up but this is a total shame. keep bumping this thread and let's catch the punks that did this. also, keep an eye on ebay - it's an easy way to move the merchandise.
