I am going climbing in Europe this summer and I ahave been told it is too hot to climb during the day. I was wondering why this is, does your equipment malfunction or is just because you get too hot.

your flux capacitor will overload if too hot.

As your muscles build up lactic acid, it reacts with the iron in the rock (which is present at all locations in Europe) and creates sulfuric acid which eats through your skin. You then plummet to the earth where your corpse is consumed by the remaining acid.

Any climbing at all past 12:00 P.M. will result in immediate death.

I am not worried about the flux capacitor thing as Dr Brown has invented a special heat resistant one for me, and the lactic acid n rock thing is that a syndrome does it have a name

Sometimes, when the suns rays hit a bolt hanger just right and the ambient air temp is higher than 85 F, a laser-like thermal force field is formed which has been known to liquefy aluminum carabiners and cause cancer in test squirrels. Be careful.

Come to AZ in a month, and then tell me it's too hot to climb... ANYWHERE!!!!

All a part of climbing outdoors. Perfect conditions are overrated.

And you'll never get them in a gym anyway!

It depends.
If it's too hot during the day you can still climb at night, as for your equipment...a couple of SHPONGLE SPORES and you should be ok.
The dosage is subjective.

Can someone give this kid a straight answer for christsake? The reason it is too hot to climb is because once the temps reach 92 degrees and humidity hovers around 80%, all bolts hangers at your chosen crag will become unstable on a molecular level, and if temps continue to stay high, they will alter the compound permanently according to region. In France, they will turn to cheese, in Switzerland, chocolate. This is why it took Sharma so long to send Realization. In addition to this unexplained phenomanon, the rubber on your shoes will denature, leaving your precious Anazasis good for nothing more than emergency calories to be consumed at your bivy after you've eaten all the bolt hangers.

Damn I'm bored

bighigaz has it right! I hate it when people complain about the weather! I heard of some climbers retreating a couple days ago just because of a little hail! Sheesh! Where's your commitment? Real climbers get rained on, snowed on, fingers frozen off, skin baked and bubbling off in 90+ temps... now that's true love.

Go ahead and climb... its your choice, just let me tell you i hope there is a little shade! Your beaners get a little toasty to touch after a nice warm day, you get tired faster, sunburns, and your ice melts in your drinks...

i have seen people climbing in 100+ degrees, california and colorado, texas all over... its fine, bring water, food that wont melt(snickers arent the greatest choice) and have a fun time...

as robin williams said, once your ass starts to sweat like Niagra Falls.. i would stop

climb on

To all the optimists who think it's never too hot to climb:

Please, oh please, come down to Phoenix in July. I'll talk my mom into letting you pitch a tent in her backyard. Long about 1 p.m., we'll go to the McDowells (Crumbleback Mountain doesn't have an approach, so it's out) and I'll watch you "drink extra water and crank hard" on a nice south-facing slab.

You in?

Well, I will still be in the Stronghold in July. Just need to chase shade and take an early afternoon siesta.
