I got a job with Rocky Mountain National park service and have had to fill out dozens of pages of paperwork for this federal background check. Not only that, but they sent lengthy questionaires to Everyone I listed including my old boss who hated me. Is this necessary? has anyone else had to face a similar experience?

Never applied for the park service but I've been through similar just for a Secret Service check for a one day event. A good friend of mine was denied a job at TSA because in her drug screen she tested TOO clean. (She exercises obsessively and drink gallons of water a day) I can't say I'm surprised.

The TSA doesn't hire sober people. Everyone knows that. Try applying to sit the Bar Exam. Edited to add: I've had to do it twice.

I've been interviewed at least 4 times by the FBI and NSA for friends who were doing internships or getting jobs. They told me it takes a year or two just to get through clearances, depending on what they'll be doing.

She can't tell you, or I will have to kill you... Seriously, the Feds are serious when it comes to important security issues. And have been even before 9/11. Just... National parks??? I don't see the relevance behind that... But then again, I've already gone through all of that for my current job.....

The thing is, the way the gov is structured when the military is occupied the USFS and the NPS get drafted to act as gaurds for military installations.

On the flip side, "a loophole in the U.S. immigration system is allowing some citizenship applicants to go forward in the naturalization process and receive immigration benefits without complete FBI criminal background checks" http://www.sbsun.com/news/ci_3725658
