Anybody out there slack'n off around the Naperville area? Seems that no body has heard of it... and I sure havent seen it around these parts. I originally just did alot of static balance stuff... Handrails, tops of swingsets and various other playground equipment... Somehow stumbled apon this buisness... set up my first line today, its about 35 Ft long, on a slant, 4 feet high on the anchors and too loose for me... Im able to walk 5 or 10 feet tho... somehow. that is, before i get flung off the line.

I'm planning on being there in a couple weeks for a month or two. We should meet up and rig some lines sometime, for sure. I'll get in touch when I get to town and get settled in.

That sounds cool! I have no idea what i'm doing yet. I ordered the kit from slackline express. I'm sure I could learn quite a bit.

I'm just starting out here in Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg, not too close to Naperville. PM me if you wanna split gas to the lake, I'm almost always up for it.

Fire off a PM to gymslackerclimber as well, I've heard rumors that he might be in the area sometime this fall.

Yeah gymslackerclimber is big slacker, also checkout the climbing gym Climb On in Homewood, IL they usually setup slacklines in the gym. If it is not up just ask someone at the desk to set one up and the yare usually glad to if the place is not packed.

Hey I'm in Evanston. We've been rigging lines every week in local parks, but our work schedule is completely unpredictable and pretty demanding of our time, so I can't really say when I'd be available. Might make it kinda hard to set up a slackfest...

Coldclimb,

Are you still in Evanston? I'll be here all winter. Any of you slackers want to get together, I'm game.

Also, any of you slackers have beta on good ditches or parking structures that I can skate?

Cheers, Ammon

Chicago slackers...

Now that's something fairly amazing to read and a real evolution - a whole bunch of folks slacking in Chitown.

I spent a couple of different stretches living on the Near North Side in the '70s and early '80s after my years in C'dale. I walked my cranked down 11mm pretty religiously while I was there to keep sane in the days long before climbing gyms. I rigged up in the Honeylocust trees between the running trail and the lagoon in Lincoln Park at Fullerton and put in a five to eight hours a week there day and night year round. Some of my favorite memories are walking late at night when big storms would come in off the lake. My rig was set up north-south parallel with the shore so in 50+ knot gales you could use your hands/fingers like sky divers adjusting the pressure and just lean against the wind like a wall. I watched the weather fairly religiously and tried to catch the good pressure fronts when they moved through.

The cops never knew quite what to make of it and though they'd cruise the running trail giving me dubious looks they did keep their distance and never hassled me. And over those years I showed a lot of curious runners how to walk on the low rig I used for jumping I usually setup perpendicular to the higher one. Back then it was definitely a pretty damn peculiar thing to be doing in town and it would have been fun to have had other climbers to do it with. Good for all you folks for hooking up to play.

And Ammon, what are you in town working on?

Nah man, I couldn't handle the city for very long, life started really sucking so I headed back to AK. Right now I'm in Boulder after a stellar weekend highlining in Moab, so life is pretty good. Hope Evanston treats you better than it did me! Wink
