I have two days up for auction, but only one has a bid so far, so pool some money with a couple / few of your friends, and get some good climbing photos, while giving money to a great cause...
In reply to: Wes is going to be my personal papparazi, if the auction over at www.rederiverclimbing.com goes as planned. Oh yeah, many top 10 photos of the UB, coming up. Crap. That means I have to whip this old machine back into shape. Oh well. Maybe one of you dirtbags can outbid me. Yeah right. UB

it is great news!! ;) the plan for next year is to do the same this year except start six months earlier ;) there will be a few more things for sure like selling the shirts and all. each year the rrgcc also has rocktoberfest (in fall obviously) and the derbyfest/rendezvous-thingy in spring. those help raise some funds but also do something more important - help us get the word out! it's not going to be easy but we are going to do it - damn the torpedoes thanks again to all that helped and all that got the word out. and really, if you have any more ideas or suggestions, please please please let either me know (through pm or email) or the rrgcc.org. hope to see you all at the red soon ;)

With a $2,500 Access Fund grant now in hand, plus the $27,489.72 having been raised by the climbing community since December 12, 2005, the RRGCC has a grand total of $29,989.72 in the bank, ensuring our ability to make the PMRP 2006 mortgage payment of $29,393.00 due June 15, 2006. Our thanks and gratitude go out to the Access Fund (http://www.accessfund.org), to the climbing community at-large, and especially to Ray & Michelle Ellington for the fundraising effort that they mounted through their website http://www.redriverclimbing.com. To kick-off the fundraising efforts for the 2007 PMRP mortgage payment, RRGCC President, Dr. Bob Matheny, has offered a dollar-for-dollar matching challenge up to $5,000 for any PMRP contributions received by the RRGCC until June 15, 2006. This match will include money raised at the upcoming RRGCC 2006 Red River Rendezvous (See: http://www.rrgcc.org/.../viewtopic.php?t=346) except for the event registration fees. That means any raffle ticket sales in addition to the registration, money raised from clinics, and money raised from gear sales @ Miguel's will be included in this matching challenge. The goal in this challenge is to have at least $10,000, including the challenge money, set aside by June 15, 2006 for the 2007 PMRP mortgage payment!

In reply to: In reply to: WE DID IT! :D AWESOME I think I will have a drink. Wojtek - I want to buy you that drink! Got your $300 today. Your kindness is contagious! :D I can't believe what an outpouring of support has been received from this site, rrc.com, seclimbers, and rrgcc.org. It really is amazing, if you think about it. In only five months, a huge feat has been accomplished...and I'm not just referring to raising $27K. What I see in the Red River Gorge community for the first time is people really working together...people in other states, countries even!...folks pulling together for the love of a climbing area, working as both individuals and in groups to make good things happen. I see folks excited to help, have the need to get involved, and obstacles being removed to allow them to achieve their goals. Our Red River Gorge community isn't just Kentucky and neighboring states; It's a huge network of people and "local" isn't just an address. I don't have any doubt that we will make payment every year. So big thanks to everyone who donated and even to those that didn't. I know a lot of folks were hesitant to give because they didn't think we'd make our goal and I don't blame them. But now that we DID make it we have THAT many more donations coming in for next year's payment! Right? Cheers! Michelle

I would like to thank Dr. Matheny for his continued generosity, essentially doubling each dollar donated on top of monies spent in years past. while i'm sure he climbs there and has an interest in not seeing the loan defaulted, it's us, the rest of the community, that truly realizes this benefit. let's take advantage of this opportunity and be over 1/3 of the way there by June 15! -mike

On behalf of the RRGCC Board of Directors*, I am happy to report that as of the end of 2006 almost $15,000 had been raised towards the 2007 PMRP mortgage payment of $29,393.00. The thermometer on the RRGCC website (http://www.rrgcc.org) has recently been updated to reflect this. Regardless, we still need continue working on moving that mercury up. In this regard thank you to Brandon at RockQuest Climbing Center for raising yet another $44.00 over the holidays using rope bracelets as incentive for the RQ donation container. Every little bit helps! *Not sure who the RRGCC Board of Directors are? Or maybee you know who they are but really don't know their background? Then check out their bios at: http://www.rrgcc.org/bios.php Bill Strachan, Executive Director (http://www.rrgcc.org/...2345d7772b0674a318d5) Red River Gorge Climbers' Coalition

Anybody know what the financials are on this bad bod of a mortgage? I mean, would it be prudent to be paying it down regularly instead of all at once, or is that being done? What's the interest rate on it, the length on it, etc? Anyway, I'm sure to be out there this year, I'll try to scrape together some bux from teh people up here around Chicago!

The purchase is owner financed and is more favorable to the buyer than a bank loan would be. Yearly payments are due on July 15 of each year. The 2007 payment will be the 4th out of 10 annual payments with the last payment due in 2013.

Spectacular! That's quite a sigh of relief. With just ten payments, we're nearly 1/5th of the way there! Maybe we'll even get some well-to-do benefactor to chip in for the whole can of beans... Thanks for the info!
