The Rainbow Pride Parade: May 13th & 14th 2006

It all started when the Handsome Boy Modeling School allowed two of its students to check out early and head down to Las Vegas.
We had decided on the Original Route of the Rainbow Wall in RedRocks because it was a proud line and the timing could not have been better,
Las Vegas was just breaking 100 degrees.

We passed through Filmore and Beaver and I have to say that Beaver is a very tight-knit community of warm and friendly people.

We blazed on down to Vegas and arrived a little past Midnight. Blast-off was at 5:00 am the next morning.

Shit. 5:30 am rolls around and it is already 95 degrees. We had better start hiking quick.

Two hours later we are at the base of the route, only to find it in the sun.

Three hours of napping and waiting finally allow us to start up, but we soon realize that a team of four has scooped us.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...380441a10fa4824-.jpg

They allow us to get a head-start and Perkey onsights the first pitch and the second pitch with a sideways dyno.

I onsight the third, enduro pitch and here Perkey onsights the fourth pitch.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...401805ab19eef5d-.jpg

Perkey also onsights the fifth pitch with a roof traverse that ends up being easier than it looks.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...b70c2c235795b4b-.jpg

I onsight the sixth and seventh pitches which bring us to the Over the Rainbow Ledge System.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...9af7d9690860b7b-.jpg http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...ea7234b514e874c-.jpg

We look down and find our friends making good time in the lower Dihedrals.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...2e6bd5203f24f2e-.jpg

We take a quick lunch and Perkey admires the fact that we are only 10 miles from a pool and a Pina Colada at the Luxor.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...e88d9ec35d4effc-.jpg

A quick traverse off of the bivy ledge leads into the Red Dihedral where Perkey onsights the tricky and dynamic pitch.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...542c175ff7520da-.jpg

I pump out on the next pitch and fall. Perkey takes the lead and flashes the pitch.

By now darkness is creeping down and we must bail without doing the final crux pitch in the Red Dihedral. Bummer.

Rapping the route goes smoothly and we are back at the base un under an hour.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...d25e19b60547f56-.jpg
I find a small, flat spot to ponder the hike down.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...612c285e5146eb0-.jpg
Reversing the slabs approach in the dark proves to be fun and we thrash downward towards cold beer.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...e195a59caaec706-.jpg

After drinking our last water several hours ago Perkey tries to cool down in Pine Creek.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...fb8c00384aa3203-.jpg

Luckily Perkey finds a friendly toad and after a few licks the rest of the descent just flies by.

http://grayhghost.zoto.com/...3bd76355a5ee6db-.jpg

Back at the car we admire RedRocks under a full moon.

The next day was spent climbing Frogland as a casual cruise.

One of the stranger objective hazards I have ever seen.

Home. Sunburned. Planning.

Nice pics! Were you leading on a single ice line or did they make a single in the same color? Just curious.

Great TR.

Exelent photography to compliment the scope of the climbing. Didn't need all that ass though. :)

Yeah, I know butt shots make for a pretty lame T.R. but we were going for the fast-n-light method of documentation, just a simple point-and-shoot Canon.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!
