My friend and I went to the boulders at the meat packing plant in Rapid City today after work to do a bit of climbing. The area is all roped off now, saying private property, we walked the outline of the fencing and it doesn't continue to the boulders, so we don't know if the area is actually closed or not. Does anyone know anything about this?

I just read about this on KOTA's website yesterday. Its slated for development to start on phase 1 for some office complexes and high rise condos. I'm not for sure, but I don't believe that property goes all the way to the climbing area. Though that whole hill is owned by someone, it might just be a matter of accessing it from a different direction. Call City Hall and do some digging into the matter if you still want to climb there, wouldn't think it would take to much to find out. Might also ask someone at Edge Sports, they might know.

I contacted Edge Sports today and they said that the area is still open, you just have to physically walk to the location now and park off the lot next to the boulder.
