Hopefully I have this thread in the correct category. I have a semi regular partner that has a habit of chattering excessively. (ususally when he is nervous) Great guy but the way he carries on you would think he swallowed a parrot! After awhile I learned to tune out the non climbing babble but I know it annoys people around us. When I think about it I suppose my habit of singing could get on some folks nerves?!? Nah! Anyone else?

I know your pain. I've been climbing with the same guy for the whole summer, and i'm sooo sick of him...like everything he does annoys me now. Most annoying is his habit of telling me how to do a boulder problem before i even have a chance to figure it out for myself. I'll try it once or twice, and then he'll start giving me suggestions without my asking. If you want to spew beta, please do so at the consent of others! thank you. Things a partner might do that bug me:- undependable people
- being hurried, or rushed
- un-announced additional partners (ie. trio on a day that a duo was planned)
- illegal drug use
The above list wouldn't be balanced unless I mention things I do that bug:- I chatter aimlessly (but I go stone cold quiet when nervous)
- I'll let you carry all the gear (ask alpinerocket)
- I will stop climbing with someone, and never feel like I owe them an explanation why.

I have a partner that enjoys sitting in the harness and staring at the wall while I hold him in the belay, more than actually climbing the wall. That gets a little annoying after awhile.

My partner is always pooping out in the middle of climbs that she's totally capable of sending. She rarely challenges herself on tougher grades and loses interest all together if I dare to take longer than 30 seconds to set a good anchor. Worst of all? She makes me drive both ways, I have to prepare all gear and food myself because it's my idea to go climbing and she likes Jeter better than Nomar cause "Jeter is hot." Otherwise, she's just a normal girlfriend, I guess.

Farting (at least within nose-shot of your belayer ) and impatience are two sucky things to deal with. Not carrying any more than your harness and shoes, and for added effect rolling your eyes when your partner takes a little longer to huff and puff up the trail with a pack practically half his/her size, also gets old real quick... But the worst is choking everybody around you with spray and excessive, and/or unsolicited beta. SHADDUP already!

I think the worst thing is when taking a newbie Climbing they just say they can't without even placing a finger on crag or wall. But other than that I think that just plan disrespect for the sport and others. Not putting in on the outing is also really dickish. later, Tim

Things that piss me off that my partner dose... 1.She only talks when Im on a hard route, she dont really talk when we are on the ground but as soon as I near the crux on a climb or it is a all together hard climb for me she starts talking. 2.I am a 5times better climber then my partner "I can pull some 5.13 and she has trouble with 10's" but no matter what I climb if I cant do it I will hear about it forever but if she can't do it she just makes up crap, like it wasent her fought. 3. She is a Bi--- Im not going to lie and she will tell you, I realize Im not a easy guy toget along with and I dont get along with most people but man. 4. She is allways worried about what other people think, and gets me really mad. their are many more but I get just mad thinking about them. DaggerX

I'm with collegekid .. excessive beta, or beta for tall people (I'm barely 5') gets me every time. It breaks my concentration and spoils my chance to puzzle the route for myself ..

When leading in the gym, my partner has a tendency to load me backwards in my GriGri. And it almost happens more often than not. Im just about ready to shove the GriGri where the sun doesnt shine. It really sucks that he doesnt have any gear and we always use mine, but at least that way I can make him carry most of it. He also has a tendency to not push himself to his limit and thats not always fun. Climb Hard!

I always make sure to thank my partners for the belay or lending me gear. I know it must get old that I don't have gear (rack) of my own, but being unemployed cramps that pretty serious. So I make a point to let them know that it is appreciated. Know-it-alls, or people with snobby attitudes bug me. People that act like they are God's gift to climbing, or life in general get trying too.

Oh, yes, she habitually gets further reaches than I can. She also has this grating way of getting those way far apart foot holds. Let's not even talk about what she does with overhangs!

Nope, I just cant stand the one kid I know, that i sometimes climb with. He says things like I don't know how to climb, and that i suck. But here I am on the rock and pulling harder moves than he even tries. The he changes his mind saying I'm a better climber than he. I wonder about that kid. But sometimes I'd just like to hit him -rrreeeaaaaallllll- hard. Kat

Perhaps my climbing partner's most annoying trait is that he retrogrades every climb we happen to send. If it is a 5.8, he will be quick to say it's a 5.6.
