We were just up to Clark Canyon over the weekend and noticed there are at least a couple routes on Maltese Falcon that aren't in the guide book. This was my first trip to the Canyon so I wouldn't have any idea how long they've been there. We had our own personal 12 year old rope gun. :!: This kid had the weekend of his life. He on sited probably 8 out of the 10 routes he put up for us, all in the range from 10a to 10d. He went back and tried again to Red Point the two routes he hadn't flashed. Previous to this weekend, he'd led only one 10b outdoors. This weekend he tucked 10 more under his belt. (plus some warm-up routes in .9 and .8) His dad firmly held him to work the grades every time he wanted to jump on an 11c or 12c. (He did TR Spud Boy 11c - and Spud Boy is his new name, one he's proud to hold) Our next visit there he'll no doubt be leading the 11's. He cranked two 10d routes before the end of our 2nd day. We spent both days in the Potato Patch and in all, there were only two routes he didn't get to the top on. Neither route was due to his lack of ability either, only lack of reach (he's not 5') Awesome weekend, awesome kid. One of the routes Spud Boy didn't finish because he couldn't reach the crux, was one of the new routes on Maltese Falcon, just to the right of Porridge. His dad climbed it to clean the gear and said it was about a 10b. Has anyone climbed this and what rating would you give it? Thanks
