According to Italian news, last night 25 climbers had to be evacuated from Capanna Carrel. Until further notice, ascents to the Matterhorn from the Italian side are prohibited.

I was there in 2003 when they shuttled out about 60 or so people from the Hörnligrat with two helicopters. Mountain Rescue in this area really has plenty of practice these days... :?

again that was a rockfall....as someone said "Matterhorn is a bunch of stones glued together with ice"...if it's too hot...the ice melts...and those stones fell down.... :roll:
same thing for the Eiger...

You sure? I mean, the stuff around Chamonix looks awefully solid compared to the crappy high peaks in Wallis.
