Guys,
another bad news about one of the most beautiful valley in the Alps...it looks like a private electrical company reopened an old and aborted project, of the old Italian Electrical Company, to close and tap the whole creek and river system of the valley in order to produce electricity. Of course this project will destroy the beauty and the natural system of the valley, so we ask you to go here http://www.valdimello.it/...=52#__firmepetizione and sign the petition against this shit!
And, please, spread the voice!
Paolo

Maybe somebody should (preferably with a couple of pix to underline the concern) put it up in Access Issues & Closures to catch the attention of the rest of the crowd. It's not exclusivly a European thing, is it?

Just a bit of background on this. As you know Italy lost electricity in September 2003 for a whole day. Currently it imports about 25% of its requirements from France, Germany & Austria. This "pissing in the wind" scheme looks like a first step to do something about Italy's very asymetrical power system, not that it will make much difference but will make some politicos feel a bit better (hey folks were doing something). Without pre-juding this - I have a feeling that the politicos will ignore the petition (this is not to say we should do nothing).

that is what i fear. but still we shouldnt go down without a fight. there are other options avaiable, i would imagine, that dont include the destruction of such a beautifull valley.
