I enjoy climbing. I enjoy climbing hard and I take climbing seriously... but i saw a post about stupid things that non climbers say and it reminded me of a conversation I've had with a fellow climbing friend. I pointed out all of the stupid things that climbers say. I climbed some choice rock the other day. That anchor is bomber. I'm totally stoked to get on some choice rock this weekend at J tree. These are just a couple of examples... do you have any? Or feel free to just get upset at me and make fun of me right back, either way, climb on.

Damn. That was stupid. Agree with berserker, check out a lot of the threads around here... a lot is funny, a whole lot is really irritating, and a lot more is stupid enough to inspire fear... "Core"... for a pretty decent rant about "core", check out BD´s rock site. http://www.bdel.com -> Rock -> Top of the page smack dab in the center. But heck, I say stupid things all the time. Just look at my last sentence (hell, this whole post for that matter).

This is a bit subtle but the way a lot of climbers, myself included, use the word "crux". 'I did the first crux no problem but got shut down at the second' - or any other variations there of. crux (krÅks, krÊŠks). 1. The basic, central, or critical point or feature: the crux of the matter; the crux of an argument. 2. A puzzling or apparently insoluble problem.

"I need a (set of)" (insert gear you'll only use once for novelty here) "I sent that route" (where did you send it to? Can you send a few to Michigan...we're a little short on routes around here) "There I was on the sharp end" (My rope is dull and limp on the end...maye that's why I can never send any hard routes.. "I post on RC.com" 8^)

Me to Wideguy earlier today about a possible Prodeal... "So.. i want either half of a doubles rope set.. or maybe a full set of half ropes if the price is good " (i use half and doubles interchangably and sometimes in the same sentence haha) he's like "to a non climber that was the most fucked up sentence ever"

maybe this just bothers me but when people are complaining and super loud about it. we all hurt ourselves, either shut up and climb or go home. this weekend this guy on a route next to me wouldn't shut up about how his hands were messed up (though it looked like he was leading just fine) after about twenty minutes of non-stop talking he laughed and yelled to his belayer, "he ain't climbing unless he's whining." that really got under my skin for some reason.

Asking a non climber for the "beta" on something that has nothing to do with climbing (or VCRs). Almost as stupid as stealing the word "beta" to start with.

Say something like the route was IV, 5.6, AI3, A3+ to any one who is a non climber.

" I really don't care about grades. But I lead a 5.12 solid, and a couple times I climbed a really hard 12+, I only really climb below a 10+ on my really off days, and 11+ are my favorites, and hell no, i don't even get on anything below a ten. But really, numbers aren't my thing."
