I went to spain... well, it was for a month, not just last weekend, but it was awesome, even at 3 month pregnant! I managed to do a 7a+ (on TR) with one fall, which I think is pretty good for a pregnant lady!

Two glorious days of cragging at S-Town. Sunny and 68 both days. Walked out in the twilight on Sunday after making absolutely sure that my arms would be completely useless for another 5 days or so...

That guy is wearing a SUPERMAN shirt!!!!

I only ever climb in a batman shirt. If I'd choose the all powerful kryptonian over the closet homosexual millionaire, I could climb harder too.

I set a goal for myself to climb every day for the month of October. This weekend was sort of my midpoint and I had a 3 day weekend to spend climbing. Since I don't have a climbing partner I spend most of my climb time bouldering.

I was a little tired on Saturday. I'm not exactly sure why but my forearms wore out quicker than they normally do. I spent most of my time trying to climb easy routes through the burn but didn't get many attempts on new routes. I was able to tough through an hour and a half of climbing but I didn't feel very good at all.

Sunday I almost didn't get to go climbing. I babysat my girlfriend's daughter for most of the day while she worked and she didn't get back until an hour before the gym closed. I rushed to the gym and spent my time working on 3 "project" routes. I lost a lot of skin off my fingertips that day.

Monday I arranged for a different babysitter and got 2 hours of climbing in. It was probably the best day of climbing I've had since this month started. I strained a muscle by my elbow right off the bat so it was aching the whole time but I managed to make 2 of my "projects". I also was able to on-sight (is that possible in a gym?) a route that I didn't even think I would be able to start.

I took Tuesday off climbing to let my elbow rest a little bit.

All said I had a decent weekend climbing. I wouldn't consider myself that great of a climber but the routes I finished were definitely testing my skill and strength. I'm very happy with the progress I have made in 2 weeks. If things keep going this way I may just extend my climbing goal to include next month too.

Now I just need to find someone who can help me learn lead and I'll be set. My gym requires two people to take a lead class and the one co-worker that I've climbed with lives about 45 minutes away and goes to another gym. I'm just really bummed that I got serious about this late in the season. Now I have to play roulette with the weather before trying to plan a trip to Smith, Broughton, Beacon, etc.

My suggestion: don't. I had that mentality once, and it did me no good. If you don't give your body a break of at least 48 hours, you're going to greatly increase the risk of injury. My ability plateaued around 5.9/5.10a, and I thought that was because I didn't climb enough. I didn't improve until I stopped climbing every day, and did something else that wasn't finger and forearm-intensive. Be kind to your body, and it will reward you. Run it into the ground, and it will only make you climb worse.

My 4 day weekend ended yesterday.

Sport and trad climbing at Jackson Falls Saturday and Sunday with a little PBR enhanced night bouldering.
Spent a rainy Monday climbing on Dave Chancellor's monster garage woodie.
Spent a few hours getting worked at yet another set of secret SoIll pebbles.

Did a three pitch and two two pitch routes in the Stronghold with a new partner. We had a great time. I love watching the eagles and hawks from above.
