Anyone have any info on ice climbing in the Steamboat area?
I will be there over Christmas and want to get in at least one day on ice.

I found info one waterfall ( forgot name) just outside of town a 60' footer and then some info on two more but on private property.

that 60' climb is called Fishcreek Falls, if you are going to the climb through town take a left at the hotsprings(there is a big pink bunny at the Rabbitears Hotel On your right). Take your first right and follow that all the way to the falls. If you are coming from the pass reverse these directions. This is a fun climb with many variations, in fact this was my first ice lead. Have fun and climb safe thereare a few hollow areas in the middle.

That route is easier led than top roped. First you would have to take the trail up a bit, find the creek and follow it down to the top of the climb (don't fall). Maybe you can do a small free solo up the extreme right (While facing the climb it would be right). My advice, take 3 screws andlead it in under five minutes.

There is almost always slings around the trees at the top for top roping fishcreek falls. It can be a bit of a pain to scramble up to the anchors like tim mentioned, but not impossible. The other falls you found were probably walton creek falls, which is on public property but is accessed thru private land. The upper falls in fishcreek canyon is supposed to form up some real nice wi3 and wi4, but it is a little longer hike to get there. The easiest way to get there is to ski off the back of the ski area, but it is easy to get cliffed out back there so be careful.
