I saw this gear (Edelrid Eddy) in a store, similar to Gri Gri, and thought if I can climb solo (w/ rope) using this Eddy. I've tested in the store and looks like its possible. Does anyone use this device for solo climb???

I've been waiting on this device. It's unlikely you're going to get advice on solo usage with it for two reasons: 1) It's a new product this year and just came out. It hasn't been on the market very long, and not too many people have one. 2) It's ridiculously expensive. The only real difference between the Eddy and a GriGri or Cinch is that the Eddy has a "panic pull" emergency break, so if your gumby protege freaks and jacks the handle all the way open, you don't crater out. That's a nice feature, and why I had picked the Eddy as my next auto-locking belay device, but not at $160. That's twice the cost of a GriGri for a feature that's got a limited application (especially for me, as I most often climb with my experienced partners, even when taking new climbers out, and rarely have neophytes on belay). I think my next autolocker is going to be the Cinch. Easier feeding than a GriGri, built-in dynamic belay, and lighter to boot.
