Today is Friday, Dec. 15, the 349th day of 2006. There are 16 days left in the year. The Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, begins at sunset. Familiar water droplets skating across your skillet tell you the grid is hot. It's time to drop some batter onto the surface. Wait for the evenly-spread "enclosed bubbles." Time to turn once. A heavy iron skillet and medium-high heat help pull your caper off. Pancake's ready. The "necessity" history of pancakes is common sense. Every civilization somehow learned grains ground into flour became become cakes or patties with the addition of a little liquid. The next step was to singe them on a hot rock to make them crisp. Simple, early hot food. Fast forward to colonial America and a much later time. Here, slaves carried homemade dry pancake mixes in a pouch to the fields with them. When it was time to eat, they added water to the pouch, worked it into a batter and baked patties on a hot hoe over an open fire. Pancakes have evolved into thier own niche breakfast item and you are bound to find a pancake house just about everywhere you go. Different countries have thier own take on them, but they are still basically the same. I like mine really fluffy in the morning and I enjoy a crepe in the afternoon. Add eggs and bacon and you have one hell of a sammich. Get your pancake on. LMWB (ADHD) version: Wake up, get coffee. Go to IHOP. It's less confusing.

Jamison is on the menu. To my pleasant surprise, someone in my office bestowed said spirit to instill some holiday cheer. God if weren't for the people I would have quit a long time ago. Shots???

Buenos días gente. I need some coffee, dark, dark coffee... IV please! Terrible day yesterday (to finish off the little cheer I had left from fighting with my dad), my sister had some trouble at school which was completely arbitrary, my mom's car crapped out and now she is driving mine. I hate that for two reasons, she wrecks cars just by sitting on them (it's some sort of curse), and I loose independence.... Today was supposed to be my last day of work, no such luck, looks like I'll be in until the end of next week! I just hope the mechanic who worked on my mother's car stands up for his work... -F

Actually from a christian and British perspective, pancakes don't have the sodim bisulphate or whatever it is. This makes them more like crepes. They are also eaten traditionally on Shrove Tuesday. That is the day prior to Ash Wednesday which marks the first day of Lent. During Lent, a time of fasting, things like eggs could not be eaten so on the last day before Lent (Shrove Tuesday - sometimes called pancake Tuesday) extra food that would not keep would be consumed with pancakes (no refridgeration in days of yore). As side note - Ash Wednesday got it's name from the fact that monks celebrating Lent would cover themselves in ash. Lent itself would last 40 days and nights. It marks the time Christ was in the desert being tempted by the devil. Now I've done my trivia drive-by, gotta go. Someone told me the coffee shop was getting better - read like it used to be...... but where's the pics????

Morning folks, I'll take a chai tea and a side of whole wheat flapjacks when you get a moment. And maybe some extra protein..my whole body is sore from tough workouts. Yikes. Hope things get better for ya Fenix..sorry man. And thanks for that blasted reminder Arretinator. I think I've bought all the gifts I'm gonna buy. No one's gettin' jacksh!t except a visit from me. I had to get a plane ticket AND a car rental because everyone's got little crumbmunchers and can't pick me up from the bloody airport. Besides, I'm beyond enough as far as presents go. (Can I add one climbing note? I did a 5.10- at the gym last night - my first EVER...had to share it with someone!!! Thanks for listening).

I'll have some of that coffee, black, please, and a stack of Sourdough pancakes like they used to make at the Bankhead Diner in northwest Atlanta. All the shopping is done, save for a stocking stuffer for the missus. I'm heading to Barnes and Noble to find a book on interview techniques, then to Pet Smart to get the dogs some rawhide chews. The barn where we keep our horses is having their Christmas party tonight, so I'll be drinking in the holiday cheer. Ciao, y'all.

Coffee, please. Black and strong. How about some waffles for next week? Fenix, hope things get better. Hang in there. And good luck with that final, climbs4fun. My shopping is going along well; just an uncle and my brother left.

Thanks for the well-wishes. Day was hell, but the results turned out reasonably well... or at least not entirely destructive... Have a good weekend everyone! I'll be drinking the world away throughout most of it... -F
