Back dimples are apparently pretty common, and I'm told most men think they're attractive, but they're a complete mystery to me. What ARE they?
I wouldn't try to get rid of mine, but I do think they're kinda weird. They remind me of the dimples on coconuts or the finger holes in bowling balls... or sunken eyes floating over my ass.
Does anybody know enough about human anatomy to tell me what the deal is with these?

I googled back dimples becassue I had no idea of what you were talking about.
First thing, it's nice for sure, it adds some relief to the lower back.
About their origin, there's some explanation if you look in Google : it's the different insertions of the back and butt muscles that create this "hole" (to be brief and unclear!).

Those dimples are sometimes called "dimples of venus". Their medical name is fossae lumbales laterales, which is less sexy but more accurate.
They're the gaps on either side of your sacrum - that's the big triangular bone above your butt - where it joins your pelvis with a bunch of ligaments, called the sacroiliac joint.
They tend to be more visible on women than men because women's pelvises are shaped slightly differently, but you still have to be pretty slim for them to really show. Having big butt and back muscles helps too.

As a lifetime owner of back dimples, I am here to say that having a big butt is not required! I really thought everyone had back dimples... learn something new everyday.

I think Britney spears may have the nicest back dimples around. Can't see them in that red jumpsuit she wore back in tyhe "Ooops" days, not can you see it in the recent "getting out of the car photos" but if you saw the video "Salve" you'll know what I'm talking about.
Of course, Britney doesn't climb, so she loses an automatic 4 points off the hotness scale, but the subject was back dimples.

Do girls find back dimples on men (dimples of mars??) sexy? I hope so.... I have them, but i am not skinny at all, especially these days

I had a half-hour long conversation about back dimples with a buddy of mine and I must agree that a lot of guys find them hot. I like to play with my girlfriends, they feel funny too.
