What are your favorite climbing hold companies and why? What makes a good hold. For me the hold has to have a good texture. I like holds that have a variety of uses by turning them but also like to have some that have one main use IE: edges.

you could also check out http://www.synrockholds.com/ gripscreweroner left them out unique material (not sure what exactly) allows you to give them an acid bath for a more custom texture (think sandstone naturally weathering), also they make holds from real rock (that i hope to populate a small outside wall at my house with) just some options from the norm i've climbed on them, they're great IMHO happy trails and safe climbing *edit [illadelphockrock, since your in PA, as is the company, shipping should be low}

The guy is in PA overlord, lol...shipping might be tad expensive. BTW- I second Lapis Holds. After seeing Overlord constantly talk about them, we ordered some for our wall and he was right. Awesome texture, and some really cool holds, especially the slopers and the huge holds ( get the Jacky)

There is a good selection of synrockholds on ebay right now if you are looking to try some out cheap. You can't beat the price on roof holds.

I also suggest that you check out the Synrock holds...they have some of them in the gyms that I climb in and they have a excellent texture. Plus they have quite a large variety in the type of holds.

Every company has something different to offer. I avoid brittle holds made with polyester resin. For strength you need polyurethane. I also avoid sharp holds. What about Atomik and Three Ball?<--- We try to make them as comfortable as possible.

My favorite holds are, by far, climbit. They are a bit expensive, but they have amazing shapes that are both fun to climb on and effective training tools.

The best climbing holds out thier would be Revolution because they have great texture and awsome shapes. Stone age has the best features out their, like thier proton, cortex, and the boss. Lastly, soill is just awsome. Most expensive out their but they they are the best quailty. Oh and don't forget about voodoo. They have some ok sets but their glass crimp sets are amazing.
