If you had to pic one spot on the globe to live and climb for the rest of your life, where would it be?

The Black Hills.

We have 4 full seasons all of which I enjoy, most winters are moderate, its under populated, excellent climbing, skiing, hunting, mostly good hard working people, close to a somewhat major city (for SD anyway), easy to find a place to live and work, very low crime rate, very easy to get away from everyone any time of the year.

It would be nice if we had a big wall a little closer (I don't consider DT a big wall).

Personally, I'd live in Barcelona, Spain. There's got to be climbing just North. Barcelona is the most beautiful city I've ever been to. There is art and architecture everywhere you look. The people are beautiful and friendly. Children are treated well. The language like music - a combination of Spanish and Catalan. And the food and wine - well, let's not go there - it's just awful! Wink What more could you want?

ceuse is a definite possiblility, but then you'd have to deal with the french for the rest of your life. i guess eventually you'd be french and it wouldn't matter. miorca (sp.?) looks rad. at one time in my life i would have said hueco tanks, but i'm not sure i could deal with el paso for the rest of my life. i've traveled and thought of this question a lot over the last ten years. for me it was a question of where to live in the u.s. i liked california but too many people, too expensive, too big and too dry. i liked flagstaff, but i think eventually it would be too limited. i like boulder, but it is too expensive, too crowded and too hard to get to the dank spots. chattanooga seems to be the best balance for a southern boy at heart like me.

This question is so different person to person. In theory I'd like to live in either Switzerland or New Zealand so I could be close to lots of stuff, but then again thats not America so it's got it's drawbacks. If I didn't want to deal with leaving America I'd say New England. Tons of cliffs, mountains, boulders everywhere, solid granite, lots of established routes, seasons (winter makes you better in the end), and the best public education in the nation! Even when the weather sucks, just wait a minute and you'll be happy.

I have to say New Zealand
It has some of the best rock climbing, hiking, skydiving, and about every other adventure sport. Along with valcanos and caves and so much more.

Well you made me want to sell my place and move now. Thanks alot!!! Wink

Well I'm very happy right here in South East Queensland thank you very much for asking.

Heaps of rock, awesome new routing potential. Great crack climbing awesome volcanic plugs to climb. Awesome surf beaches on the coast. Fantastic fishing, gotta love Marlin 500 metres of the Gold Coast eh. Lovely rainforests close at hand. Great people. Excellent climate year round, never snows, brrrrrr, hate the cold, I reckon ice climbing would be fun to try if they could work out some way of causing ice to form at 15 degrees centigrade.

hahaha. I think you'd like ice, Phil. As soon as you start climbing you warm right up. too much, sometimes, especially when your last screw is 30000feet below you and your foot cuts!

that's the easiest question i've ever been asked, and my answer regarding that place is so heart-felt and sincere you will - perhaps - understand if i say: no freakin' way do i want anyone else on this planet to set foot there who is not worthy (defeating giant radioactive cockroaches, installing legitimate government in the United States, etc) so i'm keeping my mouth shut......3..2..1..well, that didn't last long. crap. here're some pics:
