If you were me??? F-it, just shoot myself?

My degree is in Studio Art - not graphic or anything marketable but rather painting and sculpture, ceramics and drawing - that sort of thing. And I'm not accomplished. I was that asshole who got a degree in the general area where most of the classes he felt like taking were based. Not the ideal student perhaps. Spent a lot of time surfing and smoking the reefers... Lebowskiesque. Not the best life choices? What's done is done.

I now have a job that allows me 3 day weekends - Friday, Saturday and Sundays off. I'm salary and I work 1-9p.m., sometimes. Ideal in many ways.

This job is also politically based so this time of year and, especially since this is an interim year election wise, there is nothing to do so I work even less, same pay.

I've been ruminating and I've decided to leave. I don't know where I'm going though. Sort of a leap of faith, I suppose. I'm a douche, you say. Well, I have no strings. I take that back - I do have some credit card debt but not too bad (~$7K). Other than that, I'm single, no kids, etc.

I feel my life needs a kick in the grundle, maybe just the taint. Growth, some may call it. I'm that frog that was put in the pot (my own doing, admittedly, but I'm still the frog - not the pot) while the water was cool and the lull of complacency has settled in and the flame is on.

What to do? I want to go work in another country or something - experience life, preferably cheaply. I'm still relatively young - 33. That's a good age, right? Too old for this bullshit? Drink my equivalent years in Rolling Rock and see what happens?

Give me your insights, your criticisms, your jealous diatribe, oh enlightened ones of Scampground. I plead with thee.

get yourself a hooker and an 8-ball of coke.....you're first sober thought afterwards will be awe inspiring...

or just go in a direction to work in a field of something you like to do (become an art teacher for porn stars if that tickles you fansy)....or just teach normal folk at a college in some cool place (close to the rocks, and i mean rocks 'rocks' this time, not rocks 'cocaine')

or

come up with two random ideas and flip a coin

or

travel...buy yourself a single oneway ticket for the russian/siberian railroad...start in moscow and dirtbag home from the east side of russia (this is actually on my personal "to-do" list)

dude.....there's soooooo much knarley stuff out there to do...you have to have some of your own ideas....or you just looking for more options...cus there's aboot a million or two

You could study something you like and go get a grad degree in something that you feel is useful (I've met a fair number of grad students in their 30's)

There's the Peace Corps.

The JETT program. It's a year in Japan teacher school children English. I've never heard a bad thing about it, everybody seems to love it. Salary and everything.

Become a dirtbag climber?

If I were you? Yeah, I'd shoot myself. Hell, I'd shoot you right now if you prefer.

...I have a hard time finding sympathy for people who start themselves off like that. Especially when their life really isn't bad. Some would say you have it pretty damn good.

Become bored and complacent with your current situation? No big deal, it happens... part of life. To me, it just says that you're still alive and not one of the sheep content with job security, a rented condo, and bingo on Tuesdays. Those are people that live at mid level all their life. If you want to take the highs, there's going to be lows... but contrary to popular belief I don't believe it has to be a 50/50 thing. Doesn't have to be - but that take you to keep it from happening. This is a perfect example: Salaried, good job, 3 day weekends, you can sleep in, single, no kids, no strings... and you’re pissed enough to come onto the internet to whine about it. Hate to say it, Taddie might be right – ok, maybe not an 8-ball of coke, but a good night drinking or something to give you that hazy next day feeling. The one that allows you to step out of your first-person view and take a look at your life. I think you’re going to find you have it pretty damn good. And if you’re bored, then you need a change. Nothings holding you back, go for it. Move, switch jobs, date some girl you would never bring home to mom, take a spontaneous trip somewhere, get really fucking high on something, check off a milestone... Jesus fucking Christ man, just do something. Or don’t, but if you sit around here moping about it you’re gonna catch a lot of flack.

Report back here in a couple weeks when you’re enlightened.

Move my friend move.

Go somewhere you don't know a soul and start over. I did it. I grew a f*ckin' pair (no small feat I am a woman) and followed my heart to the mtns. I haven't regretted a day of it.

Sure there are plenty of days that are lonely and not what I expected but damn I did it. And I did it for me and ONLY ME. F**k everyone else I said (again no small feat I am a woman and we are taught to make everyone else happy first..at least some of us are).

I also started my own business which has also been full of ups and downs. But D_A is right - if you want the highs there will be lows. But what is life if you don't have those?? A f**kin' boring ass rollercoaster that never goes anywhere that's what. And to hell with that I say - bring on the good, the bad and the ugly. It's a helluva lot better than the mid-level life.

I'm fairly certain that none of the women I have ever dated had so much as heard of this philosophy.

To the first quote - really? Almost all the women I know put other people first or look to others for guidance. Let me rephrase/explain that - I think a lot of women like to make sure their decisions are kosher with everyone around them before acting on those decisions. I have NEVER been one of those women. If you don't like what I do, get over it. If you are my friend you will love me anyway. Trust me enough to make my own decisions and trust me to live with the consequences. I am a strong, independent and smart woman. Just be my friend/sister/brother/mother/father/whatever and love and support me in all I do.

To the second - he he he. Are you all 3??!

I'm not looking for sympathy. I guess I should have used the smily things to denote sarcasm. I'm aware that I've got it pretty good hence the 'you're a douche' comment. I understand your disdain though. It's the bored thing - I figure most people here aren't satisfied with the status quo and might have some stories of what they've done when they've hit a similar crossroads in their lives. I.e. Maww's elaborations.

Thanks for your input(s). I'm just looking for ideas, options, etc. Who hasn't hit a low? But who's kicked that low's ass and just done some kickass shit? What was it? How long did you do it for? Are you still doing it? Any regrets? Does she have a sister?Blush <----is that the right one? I always fuck 'em up... or is it \ U U / - - ---C===8 ??
