Fot the gîtes, try the official website here : http://www.itea1.com/...ffb764e53f4b4772b77b depending on when you want to go, you must usually book more than one month before to find a free gite during a week-end within a 30 km range, and almost 3 months before for a gite within the forest. Or so is my personal experience based on 3 winter week-ends for 8 persons there. But if you are traveling in a very small group or during the week, it should be MUCH easier.

alternatively, you can try budget hotels like Formule 1 or Etap: it will be really cheap, if not very cosy! You would definitely need a car though, as they are not directly in the forest, but then, that's true of any kind of accomodation around Bleau. Have fun, M-A |

Further to what Thomas said, the gites are expensive!! I am there (Fontainebleau) once a month, and the most economical option (besides camping in the forest, which is not legal) I have found is to stay either at the étap hotel, or the Formula 1. Formula 1 is totally shitty, shared bathroom, and farther from the climbing - but cheaper. Etap is the first choice - in town, just a few bucks more than Formula 1, private bathroom. Google the hotel name + Fontainebleau and you can make your bookings online.

yep! Well, I figure that now that I am stuck in bed with the ankle in a cast heavier than a full trad rack, I may as well surf on RC, give advice and pretend I am still a climber... or maybe is it just masochism?
