Hey, BCers, my husband and I are going to be in Penticton the beginning of August. Being geographically challenged, is Okanagan the climbing area closest to that town? Thanks!

You will be in the okanagan. However if you are in penticton there is only one climbing area to concern yourself with, skaha. This is a great palce to climb right in town with more routes than you will be able to climb in multiple visits. Access has been an issue in the past and recently there was a comupence but it has been resolved for at least this year. If anyone says otherwise they are misinformed... access is through the same property that has been used in the past. There is a pay parking lot and you must park there to avoid pissing off the locals. heres the link to the route database http://www.rockclimbing.com/...mbia/Okanagan/SKAHA/ Up to date access info http://skahabluffs.blog.com/ list of new routes that most likely wont be in your guidebook http://www.skaha.org/...Bluffs_NewRoutes.htm

Penticton is in the Okanagan just as Vancouver is in the Lower Mainland. Skaha is the climbing area in Penticton, just beside Skaha Lake.

Fabulous! Can't wait to get out there. Is the guidebook you mentioned still published (ie, can I still buy one?) or is it more word of mouth now?
