I prefer C3's and aliens. I simply don't like dual stem cams. At all.

what?! c3's destroy TCU's in horizontals, you can pretty much tie those things in a knot. plus, ya get what ya pay for.

Yes, but it's the triggers I dislike about standard dual stem cams. I prefer using 2 fingers to pull the trigger.

Since I own neither C3's nor TCU's, I feel especially qualified to speak up here... I like the TCU feel, despite what Chico says about the U-stem design. I also like the feel of the C3, but having tried them, I'm not sold. If I were to buy either, I think I would go with the new Ultralight TCU's. So far as price and weight are concerned, the TCU's win out. Also, um, they're quality and have stood the test of time. The C3's are just too fiddley for my tastes. But what's on my rack? Aliens, and lots of 'em. hosh.

I ran C3's and the new UL TCUs side by side for about six months and, by and large, the C3's won that competition pretty easily. They are a dual stem cam, but they have alot more flexibility than a normal dual stem, which gives me more confidence in them when weird forces are involved. That said, the price makes them tough to justify, esp since the biggest of them is roughly the size of the Blue TCU, making either a yellow TCU or some other equivalent necessary (yellow alien, gray BD, etc, etc). My personal rack no longer has any metolius on it, although i still carry the tcu's for aid and for specific climbs where i'll need triples of a certain piece. if i had confidence in them, i'd recommend aliens, but i dont, so i wont.....

I like TCU even though at time I feel as if my TCU walk a little bit if the cam is at the end of its range (use it since I don't have the other size as it is already used in the pitch) Has anyone else noticed this problem, TCU walking when they are at their widest range? Kevin

Not a promo, but MountainGear has an "OK" deal on TCUs... I just picked up 1-4 for $180.

I have TCUs, my girlfriend has C3s. I've whipped on both. The C3s feel a bit beefier, have tighter springs, and overall give me more confidence, which is what is important. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a puss, or because Black Diamond has some sort of subliminal mind-control device implant in all their cams, but I just feel a little better when I place a camalot or C3.

C3s (i'd say best micro cam out there at the moment) combined with Trango Ballnuts. Both solid, both reliable and between them two cover most of the stuff easily. C

well seems like I'm in the minority here. I recently got a set of DMM 3cu's and love them. They place very solidly, and have not had any issues with loading (so far) I can see where potential problems could arise, but havnt experienced any yet. If your looking at tcu/3cu's id definitely take a look at the DMM's they have double slings and the cams can rotate where the cable meets the axle (if that makes sense) very versatile and affordable. That all being said I have not climbed with C3's so cant really compare, but like mentioned earlier, the extra cost just doesnt seem justified.

I'm going to have to say C3's. I've climbed with both a lot but I believe the C3's are just superior. They place better, great in horizontal or vertical. Great range. Either of them are a good choice though.

The doubled sling on the 3CU's for the DMM cams is almost a joke. How much do you really gain by extending the sling? maybe 2 inches? You'll still need a draw. I think the "EXTEND-A-SLING!!!" marketing is nothing more than a stupid gimick. That aside, I don't like DMM cams. I've owned one and I got rid of it. I picked it up to fill a small gap in my rack then got rid of it because I liked the gap in my rack more than the DMM cam. Preference, you know? But to each his/her own. If you like DMM cams, then they're a solid cam for the price. I just don't like the feel of them. hosh.
