I would recommend not taking the 'Birding loop' option for accessing the dome. We followed the directions and an obvious path to a severely steep trail that faded to nowhere shortly after the summit, which led us to a painful thorn-filled bushwhack across a saddle and down to the Alamo canyon streambed. We failed to reach the dome due to time (~4 1/2 hrs just to get to the streambed). Great view though! On the way back we found the very well-used/easy trail to the canyon bottom that starts at the Romero Ruins trailhead (~1 hr to go from where we entered the streambed back to the car). PS Are the bugs always that plentiful?

I just HATE it when access trails aren't paved, with signs, difficulty ratings, and water coolers every 1/8 mile! Ha, Ha. this is a joke....
