Hey Rob, Thanks for watching my back. How 'bout, I was, um, working? Nah, that's no excuse for not reading everything on rc.com, is it. Ah well, nevermind, then! GO

It seems only fair to take pop shots at the rich and famous. I understand that and I enjoy it myself. But, I can clarify this story a bit. Ms. Couric came out to the Gunks on the Fourth of July to experience rock climbing for the first time. There was no camera crew, no story aired on CBS evening news, just a person who wanted to try rock climbing. She had a really good time. She climbed a couple of things on toprope. In so many ways, it was just like the day I first got to try rock climbing. She was very excited about all the fun she had rock climbing for the first time. She wrote about her experience in her blog. She got a lot of the terminology wrong. So far, I don't really see any reason to roast her over the open flames. I'm pretty sure, when any of us came back from our first day of climbing we got most of the terms all screwed up. Most of us didn't have the benefit of a blog to immortalize our own "foot in mouth syndrome". So, relax! It was just a day of climbing done by somebody who may live their life under the microscope of public scrutiny. Would you have come off any better after your own first experience climbing? Really, shouldn't you experts be out climbing or something? All in fun. And yes, the picture is from the first pitch of Hawk! Cheers, Nick

I'm willing to forgive a lot of the article (except for the heinous crime of 'he/ she' which should be punishable by death). Despite the fact that it is only a blog entry, she is an anchorwoman and the letters 'CBS' do pop up in miltiple places on the page, so there should be an expectation of a certain level of accuracy. What I think is truly wonderful is the following comment:
In reply to: I had the privilege to meet Sir Edmund Hillary once, too. It was a meeting that I will always remember, and he also gave a great lecture about his great expedition up Mt. Everest. It's also interesting to learn that Senator Hillary Clinton was named after him as well. Thanks for sharing your stories with us, George. And by the way, Katie, when are you leading your expedition back up to climb the Shawangunk Mountains?(or the Gunks as the locals like to call them) Will you be needing any Shirpa guides to help guide you up the Gunks, like Sir Edmund Hillary had up Mt Everest? They may not be the Himalayas, but if you're going to go up the Gunks, a Shirpa guide is the way to go. But watch out for all those skunks, and don't carry any junk. And be sure to bring a hunk, of fried Kentucky chicken chunks. Shirpa Peter

NONONONONO, gunksguide. See, when roasting a newsperson and attacking, among other things, her accuracy (I'm told this is a hallmark of the proud profession), we CANNOT stand to have people wth factual input enter the conversation. The irony would be too great, ya see.

I guess understanding the basics of sentence structure only applies to print journalists.
