i just came back from a three weeks of climbing in a sandstone climbing spot, my camalots are now full of dust and the spring action is not as smooth as it was before... what should i do to clean them properly? i think that, to oil the springs won't be the best idea as the oil will catch a lot of dust in the future... any help from people that have done it before will be appreciated!

You may want to try blowing the dust out with a can of compressed air before you oil them. It may not help as much as I think, but it can't do damage.

White gas works pretty well as a degreasing agent and doesn't damage the cams... Although, usually it's a good idea to keep the sling away from it. Do the dunk and squeeze method with white gas and a rinse with water as well, then re-lube.

That's what I do too^^^ Soap/water. White lightning works good. Bike shops carry it. I'm always careful to keep the lubricant off the webbing. I'm not sure if it's harmful and I don't want to find out. I hear tell there is such a thing as "cam lube" but I've never actually seen it. Could just be an urban myth like unicorns or the chupacabra.
