Does anyone know where to buy or have any titanium pitons to sell. Looking for lost arrow style, all sizes. I can only find the wedge shaped pins.

Alpindustria in Moscow, Russia. Follow the footprints painted on the sidewalk from the metro station. Let me know if you're headed that way.

Begin at the Ushba site for a list of retailers.

Best, Kim

Edit: opps, they're out of business - sold to Liberty Mountaineering. Let us know if you track something down.

I think I had a liberty mountaineering catalog but I threw it out. Filled with to much junk. But they are the people to contact although they dont have any on their website. I don't think titanium pitons are all that safe. isn't that why they don't make them? Titanium snaps, steel bends.

Richard most of the Blade style Ti pitons are gone. And if we can find them they will be in the order of $30+ a piece. Kevin and I are working on a deal of sorts I'll tell you about it over beers on Wednesday if you show up to the Pub night... It's at Nick's again this week I think.

Liberty Mountain carries a limited USHBA product line that includes only the wedge style titanium piton (Which I already have in the mail)

USHBA no longer makes lost arrow style titanium pitons

Any that still exist either belong to climbers, climbing stores or beaten into a crack on some crazy alpine route in the middle of nowhere. Very few stores advertise everything they sell online which is the only way I would know they had some. So it's more of an abscure small store or maybe a climber doubting the safety of using titanium pitons that i'm trying to find.

This we know... That is why Kevin and I have somthing in the works and if all work out as we how they will be cheaper than what you will find online.

Which is the root of the whole issue.

Been trying that myself off and on for years, that's why I'm working on something right now which may be an option for all interested. It may take a little time however. Patience young Grass smoker, they will come... eventually.

Note that Malcolm used to sell these when he was at Latok...way back in the day. He strongly recommends against ti knifeblades because of poor holding power. Durability sucks too. The wedges are supposed to be better due to thickness of the metal.

I was reffering to blade as opposed to Angle or Wedge. The old Ushba Blade pitons were similar to a thin Lost Arrow, and were about the most usefull Ti Pins I have ever used. Yes there are issues with Ti pins when you try to go to thin, which is why KB Ti pins never really caught on. A good point to bring up. Titanium is not as duable with multiple placements as hard steel pins, life span more similar to soft iron pins. It should also me mentioned that not all Titanium alloys are equal.

They are nice and light in the alpine though.
