I have started making a new guidebook for the area. If you have any new routes to add, old routes that have been modified or any pictures to add please email me at shaw026@aol.com. I plan on placing the routes on photos but I have some sketches too. Which do you prefer, photos or sketches? [ This Message was edited by: cass on 2002-10-14 14:10 ]

Both....depends of the area and it's character. Use a combination of face on topos, photodiagrams and plan maps....as well as written descriptions. Want more help? Download our "How to Write a Guide" at http://www.rockfax.com/miniguides/how_to/index.html a free pdf....chocker block full of good advice. Mick www.rockfax.com

Quote:Originally posted by coclimber26: I plan on adding a section for cascade slabs, ute pass boulders and ute valley park. These areas are already covered pretty well in other guide books, as is the Garden. How about concentrating on areas without guides (i.e. Old Stage Road, Pikes Peak - Bob D's book is now out of print, and Cheyenne Canyon - other than Silver Cascade Slab). Few new routes have gone up in the Garden since Ric's guide came out, or Bob D's last update in 2000. Same with Silver Cascade. Would rather see the wealth of routes on the Pinnacle, etc. in Cheyenne Canyon laid out. Mick

I'm finished with the garden for now and am working on cheyenne canyon. As of now the following crags will be included...GoG, Cheyenne canyon to include cascade slabs. Ute Pass bouldering, Ute Valley park, Other bouldering problems in the area, and 2 ice climbing locals in the area...I'm going to try to finish before next summer but being in the military my schedule hasn't been the best lately.

On the subject of Rockfax and guides (no offense Mick), the Vegas one would give a japanese kid an epileptic fit - super busy and the symbols are outta control. I have Roxana Brock's guide and was considering yours (I'm something of a guidebook geek) but it was kinda hard to deal with. The bouldering topos on the other hand are pretty nice. josh

There is a route on the E Face of grey rock, about 200' right of New Era that was bolted in winter '98/'99. It's about 10b or so and it has Metolious Enviro-Hangers. It's called "Sand in the Vaseline" and was FA'd by Mike Anderson
