Anyone use anything like this in addition to headlamps for night climbing: http://www.amazon.com/...BHPU/ref=pd_sbs_auto I'm thinking about getting something like this: portable, rechargable, good light, good base. Downsides: 1) From the reviews, it seems like this provides a pretty narrow light. I think I'd prefer something that allows me to widen the beam. I know that Coleman latterns are good, but I'm always afraid of mine breaking. 2) It seems the battery life here is only about 60 minutes. I'd need 2-3 hours for a session. Any ideas?

have you considered where you were going to mount this thing? weird shadows while climbing might be more detrimental than low lighting.

The shadows are less important, plus, when wearing a headlamp it tends to dampen the effect.

When I was night bouldering (no more than 15 feet high) we had propane lanterns, climbers and spotters had headlamps. it was good for the area down low, but the shade would prevent it from lighting up the very top. Hanging it off a tree wasn't really an option.
