Hi, I'm moving to Hawaii and would love to get some information on climbing out there. It seems that there is a lot of climbing happening in O'ahu, and I will be there for the week of Jan 15-21 so I am interested in meeting people and climbing there but, I am going to be living on the big island so I'm especially interested in meeting people over there. Any info would be great!!!! Thanks a bunch! Jennifer

I can't help you in finding people to climb with and unfortunately I know nothing about climbing in Hawaii. But. If you ever need a partner just PM me. I would love to go to Hawaii and do some climbing overthere. Would doing search in Partners section help?

Not to bum you out but I was there way back in '99 and could not find any beta on climbing. I was in Kona (the dry side) and had no luck. Maybe things have changed though. Good luck and enjoy the Big Island!

Hello... I'm going to be living and volunteering on a coffee farm for the better part of a year beginning in January 2008, in south kona on the big island. I'd love to find people to climb with. Jennifer, have you found any solid climbing spot yet? please let me know if you do. perhaps i'll see you there in 7 months! ~ Darren

I've heard of a couple bouldering spots on the NW corner of Maui. If you're adventurous, you might find some blocky junk that will suffice up in the crater of Haleakala. But, not to stomp on your dreams, Hawaii is not climbing territory. Period. The rock is ultra-crappy fresh basalt. Razor sharp, bubbly, black, and hot. Plan on learning how to enjoy what Hawaii DOES have to offer. Surfing, swimming, gardening....and the list goes on.

Hey there, my name is alfred. Well, I am currently in Iraq but stationed in Kanehoe bay on O'ahu. There is plenty of climbing to be done on the island. Some of the places are a little more difficult to find. If you plan on being on the island again some time after march 1st my friend and I would be more than happy to show you around. Good luck. Alfred

There's always the Kuhio beach park seawall, a fun, slippery, handjammin' traverse, especially in high surf.

USnavy wrote: Oahu, Hawaii has over 100 newly bolted sport and top rope routes that are on clean solid rock as well as some trad routes. There is plenty of good safe climbing here. up to 100 now eh? Jennifer, I used to live in Hawaii for nearly 20 years and know a lot about the climbing areas. Shoot me a pm or email and I'll get ya some info.

http://rockclimbinghawaii.com Talk to Mike (Bugman) - I visited Oahu last year and had a great time climbing near the north shore.

I think it's funny that I keep getting the responses to this thread. I had a great time climbing with Will, onelung, on Oahu. And I luckily ran into two climbers at South Point on the big island and did some cliff jumping and deep water soloing that was awesome. But after swimming with dolphins, hiking to the lava at night and just general hangin' out, there wasn't enough for me to do in Hawaii so now I'm living in Durango, Colorado!! Yeehaw! I'm only a month in but if your ever in this area and I happen to still be here we can scale some walls together or shred some snow trails. Hope everyones great! See ya. jkb

Yes. Not every route is bolted (some are trad) but most are.
