Here's a link to the preliminary trip report from my recent first trip to Red Rocks, NV. The trip was fantastic... the weather ranged from within tolerance to absolutely stunning, and the entire place was gorgeous. The vibe at RR over the holidays (we were there 12/27-1/2) was festive. As someone who still classifies herself as a beginner after three years of climbing, the trip was an opportunity to learn ... and I learned (thankfully without incident) that I need to work on my confidence with gear placements and gear anchors, and that I just have to find a way to get more time on real rock. http://www.rockclimbergirl.com/...-paradise-redux.html

PS - if you lost a guidebook between 12/27 and 1/2, PM me with: 1. which guidebook; 2. where and when you lost it; and 3. how your book was marked and then we'll figure out how to get it back to you.

Nice report, and beautiful pictures. Hey, we were there almost the same time-- 12/25-12/27! I had to laugh at your description of the Gallery. I couldn't believe how crowded it was... But climbing there was still fun, and being in the sun all day was definitely a plus on 12/27. I think the high for the day was only around 35F? Brrr... but strangely, it ended up being my best climbing day of the trip. I just wish we had 7 days like you... 3 days definitely wasn't enough. I want to head back there again, but it won't happen anytime soon :(

Oh, man - three days would not have been enough. It always takes me a couple of days to get used to the whole idea... the first two days are usually a total wash for me. I wish we could have stayed two weeks -- after a day or two of rest i think I would have really hit my stride. Thanks for the comment, and cross your fingers for an early spring? ;)

The guys we traveled with had a couple of copies of the new book, by Handren. Before the trip, I borrowed a copy of the big red book (I don't remember title or author) which had a bit more detail on which direction the walls faced and what might be feasible in the winter, so that one was helpful for selecting areas. I basically made a list of the south facing and/or mostly sunny spots based on the old big red book, and then we mostly used the Handren book while cragging. Have an AMAZING time, I am so jealous. I wish I could go back right now.....
