Who's going? Looks like they're offering some clinics I could use, and the end of March is usually a good time to be somewhere besides NY. Often too cold/wet/muddy to climb outdoors or mtn bike, and too warm for ice. Any tips on the best place to stay or what activities not to miss are appreciated. http://www.mountaingear.com/RedRock/index.aspx Kathy

I registered already and I'll spend about four days out there. I say camp out in the tent city or stay at the Bonnie Springs Ranch. Don't miss the free New Belgium beer. Looking forward to the RRR again. -hch

I'm going, trying to talk a bunch of friends into coming with this year. Stay at the campground $15 for all nights is a good deal and you're closer to the fun. I suggest not missing any of the activities, the top ones are probably New Belgium, Duno contest, Humaneering, and Crashpad Sumo wrestling.

I think I'll camp and save some gas. How's the food from the festival vendors? Is it all burgers and fries, or are there other options? Looks like Saturday dinner is covered with the all-you-can-eat buffet, mmmmmm! Kathy

The all you can eat last year was awesome!!!! The vendors have more than just burgers, can't remember exactly what though. We bought some vendor food but also brought some easy to make camping food.

Thanks for the feedback, folks! I'm really looking forward to this trip! It's rainy and nasty and too cold here to climb rock, but not cold enough for ice. Miserable, just miserable. Bleah. *Sigh*

You can also head over to the red rocks casino for some different food options. It's not too far from the camp ground, and I remember them having a really good mexican food spot.

Hey, there's a good chance I'll be around Red Rock on or about the 4-6th of March and looking for a partner, I'll keep you informed.

I hope to be going. It will all depend on if I find somebody to go with or not. One week ago it was a go, now it's unlikely. Hopefully that will change.

Looks like I found people to go with now, only problem now is I might get a new job offer soon with 6 months probation (no vacation in that time). :( I may try to negotiate a day off though so I can at least make a quick weekend out of it.

I'm planning on being there (Yosemite will probably be wet and rainy during late march, right?). The Rendezvous falls on the weekend at the end of my spring break, so that works out well. Some of the clinics look interesting. Does anyone know what experienced is needed for something like "Big Wall Speed Climbing". It says it's for "Advanced Climbers", and I'm a total newbie when it comes to big walls. If I've never done a Grade V route would this clinic be way over my head? I just want to learn about haulbags, portaledges, pooptubes and all that good stuff. Same thing with "Crack Climbing and Off-Widths" another clinic for Advanced Climbers. I think I can get my ass up most 5.10 cracks but it might take a bit of hanging. Would the "Off-Width Technique" for Intermediate Climbers be a better choice? Has anyone here taken any of these clinics before?

tigerlilly - Are you the mtn biker that I met this last year doing trailwork? I'm actually going to be out west at the time the RRR is on. Don't think I will go to it....but maybe I will change my mind. Every time I head out west I want to climb Red Rocks and so far it's never happened. Have fun at any rate!

Has anyone here taken any of these clinics before? I am an administrator for Rendezvous. I don't have all the answers that one might have about RRR, but I can answer a lot of questions about clinics. I'm trying to look at this and other websites to answer questions whenever they come up. As far as the Big Wall Speed Climbing, many of these aid courses end being about what the participants want to learn. So it kind of depends on the experience of the other people in your class. If you want to know about hauling and poop tubes, tell your instructor. They'll do what they can to accomodate you. As far as crack and offwidth climbing for advanced climbers, that course is going to take place on The Fox, which is a hard crack and offwidth climb. It clocks in at 10d. But you won't really learn anything if you can just breeze up it. The reason to take the course is because it will challenge you with a coach there to help you through it. The offwidth class is taking place at the Chrysler Crack. This is a hard offwidth -- it stays offwidth from bottom to top -- that clocks in at 5.9. It is an excellent place for someone who hasn't done much offwidth climbing to cut their teeth. Look forward to seeing you all there! Jason

Well, if you're in the area and want to climb Red Rocks without the festivities, I'm coming in early and staying until Tuesday, so I'll be looking for a partner or partners for Friday and Monday, and I'll have my own transportation.

I have in the past, looked for combo deals on Expedia. you can get airfare, car, and room at a good price at the casinos. I stayed at the Golden Nugget the last 2 years as it is on the edge of town and you get get on the road quickly and not have to deal with tons of traffic.

Thanks for the info vegas and jason. I ended up choosing Aid Climbing and Multipitch Efficiency. The Fox looks like a really sweet climb though, I'll have to get on it sometime for some self-taught lessons in crack climbing
